Construction Buyer

Salary: £36,000 – £54,000 per year

CONSTRUCTION BUYER

COMMUTABLE FROM: Hull, Brough, Hessle, Beverley, Barton, Hedon, Withernsea, Cottingham, North Ferriby  

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

• £30,000 – £45,000 DOE
• 22 holidays per year + UK bank holidays
• Free parking on site
• Monday – Friday role

COMPANY INFORMATION: Our client is a well-established building contractor based in East Yorkshire and are looking to recruit a Buyer on a permanent basis.

YOU MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING:

• Must come from a construction background
• Knowledge of plant and tool equipment is desirable
• Confident telephone manner
• Well organised and reliable
• Ability to work under pressure in a busy team
• Good computer literacy skills

ROLE INFORMATION: The Construction Buyer will report to the Commercial Manager and form an integral part of the team.

Duties:

• Create and maintain existing relationships with merchants and suppliers
• Provide prices for all materials included in project plans and drawings
• Identify potential suppliers and new products
• Contact a range of suppliers to obtain quotations and agree delivery times
• Keep detailed records and maintain an organised work schedule
• Assess the reliability of suppliers
• Deal effectively with challenges with suppliers and the flow of materials
• Ensure compliance with the safety, health and environment requirements of materials and services
• Provide advice to the project estimator on the predicted cost of individual items
• Liaise closely with the estimator at the tendering stage to ensure that an accurate project cost is provided
• Prepare and maintain cost monthly reports in order to maximise efficiency
• Negotiate and agree the most favourable terms possible with suppliers once a contract has been secured
• Manage the hire of plant and tools hired or purchased by the business
• Manage the accommodation needs of employees working away from site
• Create Operations and Manuals folders to support materials ordered to site
