Complex Project Contract Manager

You will be responsible for representing the Complex Delivery Manager in the delivery of significant value complex projects. You will be providing assurance and commercial management locally, of a high value capital scheme, to achieve the most cost-effective business solution for Thames Water.

– Ensuring that safety considerations are paramount in the design and construction of the scheme.

– Constantly raising the standard of health and safety and environmental practice, ensuring that the contractor adheres to same.

– Service delivery to both internal and external customers at site level.

– Ensuring the appropriate level of communication with clients, other project delivery colleagues, quantity surveyors and local external bodies.

– Managing contracts to deliver business outputs and meet corporate requirements.

– Applying commercial acumen in managing the contractor and suppliers to deliver best value solutions to the agreed programme.

– Developing an intimate knowledge of the contractors project programme, taking appropriate commercial action with the approval of the Complex Delivery Manager to mitigate risk to Thames Water and protect the commercial position of Thames Water.

– Undertaking activity at site level to manage the performance of the contractor to achieve cost, time and quality standards, escalating, reporting and providing assurance to the Complex Delivery Manager as appropriate.

– Correctly administering the conditions of contract, under the supervision of the Complex Delivery Manager, to mitigate Thames Water exposure to claims and commercial action by the contractor.

– Ensuring that performance data is produced and all local contractor performance issues are addressed.

– Through strong leadership, delivering and maintaining a culture of accountability, achievement and performance with the contractor.

– Accountable for developing and managing direct reports on site.

Your background will be in project management with commercial awareness and experience of managing engineering contracts with strong influencing skills. A successful track record of multi disciplinary construction project delivery and demonstrable experience of contract management of high value (over £100m) schemes is required for this role.

Previous experience of process industry construction projects would be an advantage. As you will be dealing with clients, colleagues, quantity surveyors and local external bodies, you will need to have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a track record of creating a positive customer experience. To be successful in this role you must have a passion for making a difference, together with a proactive attitude. A flexible approach is required, together with the ability to meet deadlines whilst remaining calm under pressure.

Good IT skills including Word, Excel and Powerpoint is essential, as you will be required to analyse data and make sound decisions based on partial information. Knowledge of SAP financial systems would be an advantage. To be considered for this role you must be degree educated or equivalent. A post-graduate project management qualification would be beneficial, but not essential.

As this is primarily a field based role, mobility across the Thames Water area is required.

This is a high profile position which will give you the responsibility for design, construction and delivery of an extension to an existing effluent treatment plant. It will also present a rewarding challenge for the right individual. With a total project value of circa £220m, applicants will need to demonstrate experience in all major construction disciplines (civil, mechanical, electrical and control).

This role will be based in Crossness and carries a salary of circa £60,000 plus car allowance and benefits.
