With current trends it is evident that by 2050 there could be 7 billion tonnes of plastic waste. Some 2 billion tonnes of this waste will remain in the natural environment, with most remaining on land and approximately.5 billion tonnes finding its way in to the sea.

Listgrove has been retained to support the recruitment of a UK based Chief Development Officer for an innovative polymer materials business, focused on bio degradable plastics. Significant investment, the introduction of leading polymer scientists, state-of-the-art laboratories and plans to develop products that will be supplied to a global customer base, makes this business a highly attractive employer. The role will appeal to those that are involved in the development of polymers and/or additives, especially where there is a focus towards biodegradable materials and/or the recycling of plastics or chemicals.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the VP of Innovations, the role will be responsible for:
· Managing the company’s existing network of development projects, with a particular emphasis on client development initiatives.
· Develop, introduce and supervise a program management system to track your team and individual projects, ensuring that results are achieved on time and within budget.
· Manage all aspects of development projects, from selection and deployment of the appropriate technology, through to management of product performance and key personnel therein to deliver results on schedule.
· To interface with commercial members of the team, as well as clients to identify the right technological solution in partnership with production engineers and technicians of the related businesses with whom we are collaborating.
· Identify areas of risk that could cause the prolongation of projects and provide mitigation options.
· Be the key technical contact, forming a bridge between different individuals within the Innovations team and other areas of the business.
· Lead the development of new client and technical advances in the company’s core technology.
· Assist in identifying strategic technology partnerships, which align to the company’s mid and long-term R&D objectives

The Individual:

· Applicants will be educated to preferably PhD level, coupled with 5+ work experience in a project management function, ideally in a company that is focused on additives used to enhance polymers or chemicals.
· At all times promotes an organised, structured approach to tasks, demonstrating the ability to relate to all functions and colleagues across all levels of seniority.
· Proven experience of people management, organisation and delivery to deadlines in an applicative project or in an industrial project is essential.
· Proven experience of managing work-streams and multiple projects simultaneously, including effective methods of prioritisation, presenting and planning of projects is essential.
· Excellent communication skills with suppliers, colleagues and clients around the world.
· Ability to travel without restrictions.
· Knowledge of the polymer industry is essential. Knowledge of polymer degradation and biodegradation processes is a plus but not necessary.
