Salary: £26,000 – £30,000 per year

Our client is a small but prestigious independent school for Special Needs children aged 11 in South West London. A caretaker is needed to primarily be responsible for this school.

Job Specification:
This is a position to work within the school housekeeping team. The role is diverse and will involve and not be limited to the following main duties:
– Locking and unlocking the school buildings on a daily basis;
– Helping to keep the school grounds clear and clean;
– Maintaining the school garden;
– Managing the school maintenance book;
– Undertaking minor everyday maintenance in the schools, including painting, carpentry and simple electrics and/or plumbing;
– You will need to hold a D1 minibus license or will be willing to train to do this. You will manage the school minibuses’ weekly services; plus driving children in the school minibuses to occasional school trips, games matches, swimming and school events;
– Paint and decorate rooms within the schools;
– Set up the school gymnasium/theatre for school events and performances
– Manage the weekly school fire alarm tests
– Manage the health and safety checks for the site
– Manage a rolling programme of maintenance and decoration throughout the school
– Manage the maintenance of various school wide systems (burglar alarm, vermin control, electronic clocks etc with outside contractors)
– Performing all required and relevant tasks to support our school commitment to safeguarding the welfare of the pupils

Person specification:
We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a close and supportive team, is interested in working in a children’s environment and is committed to safeguarding children’s welfare, has experience of handyman level painting & decorating (and electrics and/or plumbing), is flexible and able to problem solve, and who has a D1 license ideally. You also need to be friendly and interactive with children.

Salary – according to experience in the range of £26,000 – £30,000 per year. The school will pay a 5% pension contribution with employees having to contribute at least 3%
or sooner if mutually agreed.
Holiday – 5 weeks, – to be taken partly in term time and partly in school holiday time.
Hours – split shifts Mon – Friday during term time (7.15 – 5.30pm – this may be negotiable) and with greater flexibility in school holidays.
