Associate Electrical Engineer Reading Up to £95k + Package

Progressive Engineering and an Engineering Innovator in Datacentre / Data Storage Design Solutions are looking to recruit an Associate Electrical Engineer on a staff basis for their HQ in the Reading area, owing to business expansion and project workload for 2024 – 26.

Based near Reading and reporting into the Technical Director, the Associate Electrical Engineer will be an integral part of a Multi-Disciplinary MEP Engineering Team, developing designs (from concept through to completion) for electrical distribution systems for DataCentres, from EHV, HV, MV to Low Voltage, incorporating high voltage equipment, generation equipment, UPS plant, low voltage switchgear and power control and monitoring systems.

Specifically, the Associate Electric Engineer will also be responsible for:

  • Providing Electrical Engineering / Electrical Design Leadership in the design of HV, MV and major LV power distribution systems, in a discipline lead capacity.
  • Feasibility of the project
  • Site surveys to extract and develop data for Electrical System Studies and to enable system modelling.
  • Carry out single point of failure analysis studies on client installations.
  • Attend factory acceptance and on-site commissioning sessions as necessary.
  • Attend on-site Integrated Systems tests as- required.
  • Produce detailed and performance specification for the discipline subject to review by colleagues prior to issue.
  • Produce detailed equipment schedules for issue with the discipline specific designs.
  • Carry out detailed calculations appropriate to the discipline and review the work of others for accuracy.
  • Produce combined MEP Residual Risk drawings in accordance with the CDM regulations
  • Promote sustainability and energy efficiency within your designs
  • Carry out condition surveys for the discipline for combining into to an overall report and collate all findings for issue to the client.

For this Associate Electrical Engineer role, my client is looking an Associate Electrical Engineer with the following Skills, Qualification & Experience:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineer / Electrical Power Engineering / Electrical & Electronic Engineering
  • Currently hold or be working towards Chartered Engineer Status (IEE or CIBSE)
  • Experience of working to British, European and International Standards
  • Experience in the specification, assessment and configuration of major electrical plants
  • Proven experience in developing and leading electrical teams (as function lead) to support the delivery of complex projects.
  • Experience with system modelling, simulation and resilient system design would be a significant advantage
  • Demonstrable Electrical Engineering / Electrical Design experience in design of HV, MV and major LV power distribution systems or power Systems for Data Centres / Data Storage Systems (or similar) including:
    • HV / MV distribution systems design
    • Low voltage distribution systems design
    • HV/LV Generation
    • UPS Systems
    • Cable calculations using Amtech
    • Cable calculations by hand
    • Lighting calculations (via software and by hand)
    • Emergency lighting
    • Small power distribution
    • Fire alarm systems
    • Intruder detection systems
    • Access control & security systems
    • Data cabling and outlets
    • Lightning protection

For the successful Associate Electrical Engineer, a salary up to £95,000 and benefits package (including Hybrid Working) is on offer and this Associate Electrical Engineer role is commutable from London, Reading, Swindon, High Wycombe, Basingstoke, Pangbourne, Slough, Maidenhead, Aldershot, Farnborough, Newbury, Woking, Guildford and Bracknell.
