Salary: £42,000 per year

Our client is looking for an Assistant Solicitor to join the commercial department to handle all forms of commercial, development and/or investment property work, and/or the disposal/acquisition of businesses and/or property-related security work, either working on matters delegated from the Partners or building and developing own case load with this emphasis, all depending on experience and ability.

The main duties of the role are:

* To assist the department as a whole in meeting its fee earning targets by providing help regarding advice and assistance to clients of the department as well as other Departments of the Firm.

* Conduct of matters on behalf of clients

* Management of support services for which (s)he is responsible, including supervision of own secretary if appropriate

* Participation in marketing activities whether on a firm-wide, departmental or office basis

* Financial control with particular regard to cash-flow control through collection of monies on account and billing procedures.

* To participate fully in the activities of the Commercial Property team

* To utilise the skills of any Department Trainee and to assist with the Trainee’s training

* Carrying out work outside of normal hours where the work requires this

* Travelling to client meetings both in and outside the UK when required

* Promoting good file management

* Formulating and advancing internal procedures

* To ensure compliance with Lexcel and other regulatory procedures

Qualifications

* A good honours degree

Essential skills, knowledge and abilities (Competencies)

* Sound training
* Well developed interpersonal, social and communication skills
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team
* Ability to work effectively under pressure
* Computer literate with an ability to develop its use in own functional area
* Enthusiasm and commitment
* A sound knowledge of your responsibilities as a solicitor including in the following areas:
– Rules and principles of professional conduct
– Client care
– Conflicts of interest
– Confidentiality
– Relations with third parties
– Relations with other solicitors
* Regulatory and compliance procedures

Desirable skills, knowledge and abilities (Competencies)

* Prior knowledge of Aim or other office management systems
* Prior knowledge of Lexcel requirements
* Specialist area of knowledge
