This role sits within the newly created Wealth & Insurance T&O team within the Technology & Operations Division. The role directly reports into the Head of Operations & Control for Wealth & Insurance T&O.

The role involves building and maintaining an accounting control model for the various Wealth/Insurance products/entities: SIM ( Invesments), SISUK (Insurance), Cater Allen and Offshore. Additionally the individual will be involved in managing the cost base/budgeting directly for the Director of the department.

The role will also involve managing a small finance team to support in the controls reporting.

This is an exciting opportunity allowing the right individual to develop and enhance their leadership skills.

This role will require occasional travel to other Santander sites – Glasgow Bradford, Bootle,London.

As an Accounting Control Manager your major accountabilities will include:

  • Documenting and establishing a control model for Wealth & Insurance T&O including full E2E accounting process flows
  • Accountable for identifying improvements and solutions to existing processes and in particular in relation to regulatory breaches and system failures (TDL)
  • Monitor Operations’ clearing of incidents (transactional differences) from Partenon DGO or legacy system equivalents – covering inter-platform, inter-application, inter-centre, and control accounts
  • Ensure that applications are kept within control and that all incidents are cleared within Santander time scales
  • Play a key role in the further design and implementation of the operating model for accounting in the relevant Operations area including involvement in Projects associated with SIM Operations
  • Play a key role in the review of accounting and operational control requirements for applications ensuring a comprehensive understanding of all applications within Wealth that generate accounting flows.
  • Support LAB handover of any new / modified operations, and ensure adequate accounting control positions exist within the relevant application (Partenon or Legacy)
  • Lead accounting test scripting and execution for any new / modified functions
  • Support Operations during any data migrations and co-existences
  • Where applicable, train and handover control processes to other accounting control staff
  • Provide senior management with the relevant reporting on control breaches and resolutions as required
  • Play a key role in establishing key relationships within internal teams
  • Assist in translation and communication of requirements at technical accounting meetings or of technical accounting documents

As an Accounting Control Manager your skills, experience and qualifications will ideally include:

  • Qualified accountant or equivalent
  • Previous experience working in a financial role in fast-moving financial services
  • Systems implementation experience
  • Understanding of CASS rules or previous experience of investment products client assets/money rules
  • Experience of complex integrated systems
  • Experience of working using own initiative as well as working as part of a team
  • Good working knowledge of desktop applications such as Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc
  • Proactively build relationships with internal and external peers to enhance team credibility and effectiveness.
