2 Project Managers

Salary: £26,000 per year

2 Projects Managers are required work within the Client Organisation responsible for the New High-Speed Rail project in the UK this is a multi-billion-pound high-speed railway to directly link the city centres of: London, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester.

These are 2 site-based delivery focused Project Management roles working in the Integrated Client / Main Contractor Delivery team (Align JV) in the main civil engineering works of C1 package on phase 1– Lot C1 values in excess of £26,000billion consists of 21.6km of high-speed rail infrastructure in a rural environment. This will include a 3.5km viaduct (UK’s longest rail bridge), 16km twin-bored tunnel, including cross passages and five vent shafts handling both intervention and tunnel ventilation facilities.

Required:

* Project Manager with tunnelling specifically cross passage build experience

* Project Manager with major structures experience – bridges (viaducts / bridges) over water borne areas and earthworks

These roles are responsible for managing the civil engineering Supplier contract on behalf of the Project Client and Senior Project Managers, working effectively and collaboratively with HS2 and Supply Chain resource in the co-located Integrated Project Team (IPT) to fulfil clearly defined HS2 accountabilities which enable efficient delivery of assigned scope of the Integrated Project Team (IPT) to agreed budget, time and quality parameters.

Reporting to a Senior Project Manager you will be expected to work entirely independently. High Seed 2 are a lean light touch client where the Contractors manage self-assuring contracts, they take a risk-based approach where high risk activities are given the main scrutiny – tunnels, viaducts etc – The Project Management team will review and assure submissions – ensuring safety, quality, programme and budget (safeguarding taxpayers money).

Working Relationship – Co-located

The client Project Management team are working alongside the main contractor (Co-located) in the same site offices, the role requires individuals with the correct behaviours – collaboration, engagement, stakeholder management skills who are able to drive the best from the relationship, pick up on problems as they arrive and resolve quickly rather than waiting and reviewing once the problem has manifested.

Working Situation – Site Based

Role is permanent site officed based in Maple Cross, Hertfordshire the role requires the individuals to be working from the site offices 5 days a week. Unlike most other roles in HS2 there is not hybrid working. Lease note the site offices are very well equipped with canteen, gym and leisure facilities

Duties & Responsibilities

* To be responsible for fulfilling the duties and obligations of the NEC3 Project Manager on behalf of the Project Client and the Senior Project Manager.

* To be responsible for supporting the Senior Project Manager in effectively and efficiently managing the civil engineering construction contracts within the co-located Integrated Project Team.

* To be responsible for supporting the Senior Project Manager in establishing, monitoring and managing delivery of consistent contract management, including identification of emergent or systemic problems, leading to resolution.

* To be responsible for managing and monitoring contract performance.

* To review and accept programme schedule.

* To be responsible for supporting the Senior Project Manager in proactively managing risks and opportunities within the Integrated Project Team scope and support the mitigation of HS2 programme level risks.

* To be responsible for the Construction Design and Management Regulations (CDM) duties as delegated by the Client Representative.

* To be responsible for supporting the delivery of client retained third party works and services by being the interface with HS2 employees external to the Integrated Project Team.

* To be responsible for supporting a collaborative culture which enables high performance by encouraging innovation and knowledge sharing between HS2 as the client, other Integrated Project Teams and the supply chain within Integrated Project Teams.

Required Criteria

Looking for Project Managers with Major project delivery (construction) experience one PM will have experience of major tunnelling projects (cross passage build) the other Project Manager will have major bridge / viaduct experience over water borne areas & ideally some major earthworks exp. The candidates can be from client, consultant or indeed main contractor experience they will be professionally qualified, have NEC contract experience and have the correct behaviours to manage the unique structure of the project (co-located in the same offices).

This is not for a Project Manager who wants to be in control of every last detail (self-assuring contracts)- nor is it for a Project Manager who will stand back and review and assure submissions, The candidate will have to be able to judge when to step in provide engineering solutions, manage safety proactively and bring out the Integrated Project Team in a collaborative way.

Knowledge:

* Understanding of the project management knowledge aligned to the level of APM Project Manager (intermediate)

* Understanding of the design and construction of large civil engineering structures such as bridge and long viaducts, bored tunnels, earthworks, highways and public realm

* Understanding of the nature of the relevant contract structures and the application of appropriate contract and supplier performance systems.

* Understanding of risk identification and management

* Understanding of project schedule management, dependencies and risk assessment

* Qualification in civil engineering, project management or the equivalent experience.

Type of experience:

* Experience of the entire project lifecycle including planning, procuring, developing and implementing similar project activities.

* Experience of leading, managing people and working across functions and disciplines to deliver objectives

* Experience of large civil engineering construction projects
