Qin Recruitment is working with a new sixth form academy for 16-19 year olds in London who have a passion for film and television. They currently have 600 students on the roll and will educate up to 1000 when full.
Through its founders, they will provide unprecedented access to the screen industries and to its workforces. The academy teaches behind the camera skills covering many screen disciplines. The academy founders are a group of internationally acclaimed British film producers. They are practising industry leaders who work every day in all areas of the screen industries.
The academy places a strong emphasis on the development of the whole person. Through their pastoral, tutorial, and enrichment programmes, they will equip their students with the life skills needed to progress in their professional and personal lives. Their students will all be known well by staff and challenged and supported to realise their potential. And crucially, within their newly refurbished stunning building, the academy is a safe, accepting, diverse and fun place to study.
The Role
The role of Business Manager is critical to the success of the school and the wider Trust. It is a leadership role (and may sit on the SLT) responsible for a range of operational and administrative functions. To be successful you will need to lead delivery through people that they manage, others across the school and contractors in addition to personally delivering in some key areas of the role. You will also contribute to and take shared responsibility for the cross-Trust systems and processes that are in place in the trusts schools. you will need to understand the school’s strategy and priorities and articulate it to their own staff, so that those staff all understand and take ownership of their contribution to these.
Leadership
As the School Business Manager, you will be a partner to the Principal and the senior leadership team, ensuring that the school’s operational and administrative functions are aligned with the school’s objectives. You will also act as a critical friend to the Principal and senior leaders, ensuring that the design of educational programmes and initiatives is such that they draw effectively on the school’s operational and administrative teams. In areas where the School Business Manager is responsible for ensuring compliance with legislation or with Trust or School policies you will work with the Principal and senior leaders to ensure that collective responsibility is taken for this.
The Trust Central Team
As School Business Manager you will work with your counterparts in other trust schools, the finance business partner in each school and with the Trust Central team.to ensure that a consistent and high-quality approach is taken to the delivery of administrative and operational services across the Trust. Standardisation or alignment create opportunities to improve the quality of services by increasing efficiency, reducing workload, comparing approaches, and benchmarking performance.
The School Business Manager will:
● Contribute proactively to the design and specification of Trust-wide systems and policies, to ensure that they meet the needs of all Trust schools.
● Take on responsibility for developing some of these themselves on behalf of the whole Trust e.g., if they have a particular relevant expertise or interest
● Ensure that agreed cross-Trust systems and policies are being implemented in their school
● Monitor the effectiveness of school and Trust-wide systems and policies and suggest improvements, constructively challenging when needed.
