Accounts Clerk

Our client, a highly successful, family-run business based in South Shields, are looking to expand their existing team with a new Accounts Clerk, to start as soon as possible. The role will be part-time, working 24 hours over Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. This is initially a temporary position, with the view to going full-time and permanent for the right candidate.

Duties will include administering purchase ledger and sales invoices, preparing payment authorisation, matching, posting and reconciling invoices, raising BACS and cheque payments, controlling direct debit payments, VAT returns, petty cash, recording of income and expenditure and ensuring that cash, cheques and BACS payments received are posted to the accounts. You will also be responsible for reconciling ledger accounts and reporting any problems with payments received (or not received), credit control and aged debt reporting, bank reconcilliations, month-end, monthly management accounts, and payroll.

The role will also involve carrying out day to day administration, answering the phone, customer service, and processing enquiries, so it is essential that the right candidate has a confident and friendly manner, and is comfortable dealing with people on all levels. Scheduled sales and marketing activities will also form part of the role, along with any other ad hoc administration duties as required.

The right candidate will be conscientious, highly accurate with a keen eye for detail, and must be comfortable working under pressure and to tight deadlines. You will need to be confident to hit the ground running, and so previous experience within a similar accounts-based role is essential. Proficiency in using Sage 50 Payroll is critical to the role, and so the right candidate will be need to be able to demonstrate a full working knowledge of this from the outset.
