Development Technician

Our client is a family-owned international manufacturer of films and foils to a wide variety of market sectors. They are currently looking to recruit a Development Technologist to be site based in Northumberland.

The role:

· To coordinate and ensure that all aspects of the Accelerated Weathering Programme and evaluation of outdoor samples are carried out effectively and within the specified time constraints.
· To ensure that all the Weathering Machines are maintained in good working order to minimise downtime.
· To promote and develop ideas for improvements to the Weathering Programme and Equipment set up.
· To contribute to the understanding and interpretation of test results in relation to product construction and modifications.
· To complete and report laboratory work and to assist in running and reporting of lamination line trials.

Principal Accountabilities

Responsible for managing and co-ordinating all aspects associated with the Accelerated Weathering Programme (including World Wide Weathering) are completed and reported within the specified timescales.

These include:

· Controlling sample test request
· Managing results database
· Planning sample evaluation cycle times
· Controlling physical period sampling history archive
· Optimise machine capacities
· Training of additional personnel ensuring consistent test results interpretation.
· Responsible for maintaining and basic maintenance of all Weathering Machines to ensure that they are in good working order to minimise downtime and Manufacturer’s Service Engineer’s costs within budget.
· Monitoring and regular reporting of operating costs of Weathering Machines/facility.
· To maintain an excellent standard of housekeeping within the Weathering Testing area and to ensure all tasks are carried out in a safe working environment.
· Perform regular general laboratory operations and report laboratory work as requested.

Qualifications / Experience

· ONC or equivalent in a science base discipline plus 2 years relevant experience within a polymer processing industry OR 5 years’ experience in a relevant position within the industry sector
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel
