Salary: £36,000 – £54,000 per year
A vacancy for a Senior Highways & Drainage Engineer.
Working as part of a highway design team, reporting directly to the Team Leader, the role will involve managing the delivery of highway schemes for local authority and private sector clients.
Liaising with clients, stakeholders and other technical disciplines (Transportation Planning, Environment and Structures) to deliver innovative designs within time and cost constraints.
Guiding, supervising and directing team members in technical matters to ensure delivery of projects whilst aiding technical development of the team.
Provide cover for the team leader during leave or absence and reviewing quality to maintain the highest quality of output in line with the clients’ requirements.
Assisting in the programming of resources and projects to ensure timely delivery.
Working closely with team; engineers from other disciplines; and, other construction professionals to optimise and develop bespoke, ‘value for money’ and innovative designs.
Managing consultation processes by liaising with key stakeholders and negotiating with external parties including the public.
Key Skills / Experience:
Achieved, or working towards, Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
Ability to work alone (where necessary), or as part of a larger delivery team, project managing complex projects to deadlines and budgets.
Working knowledge of design standards – DMRB, MfS.
Ability to use AutoCAD
Good drainage design knowledge for highway and land development systems including SuDS.
Understanding of highway design software, such as MX or PDS, WINDES, etc. Provide technical lead.
Ability to prepare BoQ’s and cost estimates.
Working knowledge of utilities provision, diversions and construction practices.
Knowledge of the implications of works on the environment and knowledge of sustainable construction practices.
Full understanding of the health and safety legislation covering the construction industry.
Management and project management skills to supervise and deliver a programme of works.
Working knowledge of contract procurement, specification, supervision and contract administration experience. (NEC Contract, MCHW).
Excellent communication skills, including ability to write reports and make presentations.
Excellent interpersonal skills and self motivation
