Technical Director / Chief Technical Officer – Technician Start-Up & Stock

OVERVIEW; Technical Director / CTO / Chief Technical Officer (Java / Scala background preferred) sought by exciting 2014 technology company start-up and provider of digital marketing optimisation SaaS solutions, integration services and professional services within Big Data, adtech and marketing solutions. FANTASTIC opportunity for an entrepreneurial and ambitious senior software engineering leader interested in securing a role equivalent to Co-Founder!..along with being prepared to have some ‘skin in the game’. 80-90% remote working possible

CONTRACT TYPE; 3-6 month initial contract then transition to permanent employment contract and generous pre-IPO stock options!

SALARY / RATE; £360 – £600per day for initial contract period then £80,000-£120,000 negotiable for permanent contract PLUS generous negotiable pre-IPO stock allocation!

LOCATION; My client has offices in London and Europe. You will live within 90 minutes of central London and may work remotely 80-90% of the time! There will be occasional travel to European offices such as Dusseldorf.

They are currently a team of 8 subject matter experts in digital marketing strategy, product solutions, ad operations and data science. Most of the team have been working together for many years and the services provided are the result of this close collaboration. They have a European focus with a global reach. The team have worked across all continental markets throughout the marketing value chain, with specialist knowledge in the mobile sector.

Their mission is to help organisations develop strong digital marketing capabilities, and unlocking value of existing systems and tools. Their clients maintain the highest level of control over customer data and privacy by establishing their own marketing ID across any digital channel and product domain.

My clients products and services include;
– SaaS solution which integrates seamlessly with a clients current infrastructure, bringing data, wherever the source, to the forefront of a client’s digital marketing strategy.
– Integration services; With expertise from end-to-end of the marketing funnel, my client provides consultancy on their customers’ current infrastructure, and recommend the most effective means to activate marketing data, both now and in the future.
– Professional services; my clients specialized consulting team has over 30 years combined experience in big data, adtech and marketing solutions.

THE ROLE;
This is a truly fantastic and rare opportunity to join and rapidly become a significant stake-holder in a Technology start-up at the pre-funding stage, but with a proven and already in commercial use software-as-a-service offering. The company was founded in 2014 and has been profitable since the start.

My client is looking for a “hands-on” technology leader with a strong entrepreneurial drive to join the management team of two founders and to help take the company to the next stage: both organic growth and seeking funding to accelerate growth are options currently considered.

You will have responsibility for the day to day management of the development and engineering team whilst remaining very “hands-on”. You will also lead the technical strategy, product roadmap and direction of the company, together with the technical co-founder.

You may work largely remotely if you wish, but you’ll be required to meet one of the co-founder’s once a week or bi-weekly in London and you’ll be required to visit the Dusseldorf office most likely once a month for a couple of days.

Technology stack of SaaS platform product suite;

Frontend: Apache and HAProxy
Backend: Java/Scala using Play Framework and TokuMX NoSQL database technology. As well as various encryption technologies incl. Bouncy Castle.
Hosting: AWS

Split of day to day duties and responsibilities;
Hands-on design/development – 50%
Man-management – 10%
Project management – 10%
Product mgmt. – 10%
Strategy – 10%
Representing the company’s tech – 10%

CANDIDATE PROFILE;
– Minimum of 4 years of experience in leadership/management role of a software development team, having started career as a software engineer / software developer and progressed to senior / lead software engineer / software developer and beyond.
– A record of successful delivery of software applications ideally in a start-up environment.
– Ideally you will have experience of working in a Scala environment and with distributed applications handling high-volume and low latency transactions.
– Candidates without Scala experience will ideally need experience with Java or similar OOP langauges and must be able to prove you are versatile and can pick up new technologies extremely quickly.
– Experience with AWS and working in an Agile environment
– You will be at an advantage if you have experience working within the digital marketing strategy solutions and big data space
-Excellent problem solving skills and ability to motivate and coach staff.
-Degree in Computer Science or related field.
