An amazing opportunity has arisen in one of my client Secondary Schools for an ambitious, would be Maths Teacher to work as a Maths Teaching Assistant for the upcoming academic year.

The Head of Maths has a real passion for his subject and he wants to recruit a like-minded individual to support his Maths department over Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. The enthusiasm of the Head of Maths is infectious and you will have him as your mentor over the whole academic year to guide you and coach you. The ideal candidate will have excellent Maths grades throughout their academic life and will have a natural flair to relay their knowledge to children of differing attainment levels. You will be well organised and adaptable.

The Maths Teachers have been instructed to involve you in all aspects of their job from lesson planning to delivery. Through this you will learn some valuable techniques from differentiation to behavioural management techniques. The content of your year should put you in great stead for a successful PGCE/School Direct application in 2014.

The Secondary School itself is a real one-off. It sources its pupils from a large catchment area and the intake is diverse and inclusive. The School was graded “Good” by Ofsted in 2012 with some features including pupil behaviour as “outstanding”. The Head Teacher promotes an environment of personal accountability but with strong support and guidance. By giving responsibility for their learning to the students, this has produced a consistent rise in attainment levels in Maths and English over the last 3 years. Your job will be to ensure that this platform is built upon and your expertise can help children of all abilities be their best and perform well at their GCSE and A-Level examinations.

The Secondary School is a purpose-built, modern complex with large classrooms. The Maths Department is well-equipped with the latest technology, interactive whiteboards and a Maths IT room. There are parking spaces put aside for all Teachers Teaching Assistants and there is a successful car-share scheme running to help with your costs.
