An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Interim Operations Manager to join an established manufacturing company based in Clevedon. The business is highly innovative; customer focused and has grown rapidly over recent years. It offers all the advantages of a small pioneering niche company but backed up by the security and professionalism of a global company.
The role will be to run the operational aspects of the business to achieve SQDC measures. Specific focus on operational effectiveness and delivery of step change improvement of operational KPIs.
The position focuses on productivity improvement and cost reduction with team members and cross-functional teams within operations. The job holder manages all production operations.
As Interim Operations Manager your duties will include:
– To manage the day to day operational activities through the Cell Manager and other support personnel, achieved via the development of relevant manufacturing expenditure, capital and cost reduction budgets, ensuring processes are in place to minimise production variances.
– To manage resources to exceed performance in terms of output, service levels, product availability, cost and response to meet the commercial objectives of the business.
– Establish, in agreement with the Snr Manager, improvement targets, developing and implementing action plans to achieve continuous improvement in all key areas of responsibility
– To play a leading role in the implementation of strategies aimed at improvements in manufacturing to achieve cost reduction, quality improvement and systems development, including the development of manpower capability and the provision of opportunities for the advancement of personnel
– Manage the Materials group to minimise the total cost of purchasing and stock holding whilst maximising customer service levels.
– Ensure compliance of the Operation with all procedures governing Product Quality and Safety through management review and action ensuring the requirements of statutory legislation are met, particularly the Health and Safety at work Act 1974 so as to maintain the provision of a safe working environment and the requirements of the ISO9000 and ISO1400 quality system are met.
People Development
– To create and maintain effective training and development.
– To implement/develop career succession and development plans which reflect a full business perspective.
– To ensure that manufacturing engineering organisational structure reflects best business practice.
Quality & EHS
– To ensure that the requirements of the Company’s Environment, Health and Safety Policy are achieved in the areas that are under direct control.
– Demonstrate visible leadership on all aspects of Quality and Safety
– LeadSafe: Active participation in the Edwards LeadSafe program.
– Champion customer focused quality in a continuous improvement environment.
An ideal Interim Operations Manager will hold the following skills and experiences:
– Bachelors or Masters degree in relevant subject (Engineering, Manufacturing Systems, Science)
– 10 years working in a relevant manufacturing environment with at least 5 years project & man management experience, ideally in a multi-national environment
– Demonstrate successful leadership of manufacturing method & systems improvement projects
– Broad functional & managerial experience
Manufacturing
– Experienced in implementing lean manufacturing, specifically cellular manufacturing of hand assembled products
Change Management
– Able to demonstrate that change is possible and achievable
Communication Skills
– Good command of spoken and written English.
– Able to communicate and discuss manufacturing matters with specialists across Edwards manufacturing sites
– Able to summarise information and communicate clearly to others.
Project Management
– Able to manage programs/projects at an operational level.
People & Team Management
– Driving accountability for performance into the organisation
– Mentoring and Coaching skills for first line managers
– Demonstrable record of setting and achieving superior goals for both self and others.
