Engineering / Technical Director

Salary: £84,000 – £108,000 per year

A genuine market leader (not just spiel) in special purpose equipment and factory automation is looking to appoints its next Engineering/Technical Director. This is a business that sells its equipment on a global basis to some of the world’s biggest brands and manufacturers. It has won awards for product design and export and is a bastion of Scottish and British engineering. They can offer a range of standard product which are then customised, but also deliver truly bespoke engineering projects covering mechanical, electrical and software engineering disciplines. Innovation runs through this business and the patents filed have ramped up over recent years.

Working for a global market leader may sound appealing, however the challenge to maintain that position and grow their market share is tough. Ever increasing competition from me-too manufacturers has meant that the drive for innovation is constant. This role requires someone to keep pushing the boundaries of technical excellence, protecting what needs protecting but also engaging in open innovation when appropriate. Your core remit however will be delivering next generation technology and products.

The Candidate | What Are We Looking For?

This role needs a rounded engineer. Your background might be mechanical, electrical or software/controls, but you’ll need to manage a multi-functional team and hold your own on programming, production routes and methods, machine controls and communications, Industry 4.0, technology road-mapping, product design, and more. It’s likely that you will have held a senior role in product design and development, ideally within electromechanical products, previously.
