Salary: £60,000 – £90,000 per year

Senior Network Infrastructure Architect – Security, CCIE, CCNP, CCDP, ASA

I’m looking for a visionary architect. A true leader who is comfortable selling in their own complex technology ideas to internal networking teams and getting those teams on board that vision. If you are an implementer, not an architect this role isn’t for you. 

My client are the worlds leading satellite telecoms company with new offices in the heart of London. Free onsite gym, subsidised canteen, great social life and state of the art environment make this a fantastic place to work. 

An experienced Network Infrastructure Architect, with obvious drive and leadership, is required to develop the strategy for the evolution and design of my clients corporate network. This role has a fantastic basic salary and large BONUS. You should expect minimum 15-17.5% and possibly as high as 25% bonus. Basic we are negotiable. But 60-70 is likely, 75 a possibility. 

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

The Senior Network Infrastructure Architect will develop the strategy for the evolution of the corporate network as well as the architecture and design of systems and services that use the network to provide connectivity to internal customers and systems as well as external customers and partners.

The role requires someone with strong drive and leadership to achieve the changes that are necessary in a business that will continue to evolve.

The role will require a close working relationship with the Head of Group Information Security to ensure that the network architecture and design incorporate best security practice, as the Network Infrastructure forms a significant part of the Inmarsat security posture.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead the development of the network architecture roadmaps.

Work closely with the network delivery teams within CTO to prepare Architecture and high level network design documentation.

Work closely with the Head of Group Information Security ensure that corporate Information Security policies are reflected in network architecture and design.

Investigate new products and technologies and where necessary conduct evaluation and/or proof of concept work.

Support the transition of strategic Group IT projects from architecture inception to project realization.

Develop and document network design principles.

Develop and maintain a set of guidelines and policies relating to the preferred network technology choices and implementation practices.

Provide leadership as a technical authority for the work of the network delivery teams, to ensure Architecture principles are understood and translated into low level design and implementation. Ensuring that where compromises may be required for good commercial or business reasons, that they are based upon sound and reasoned judgements.

Foster and maintain excellent working relationships with the in both the Group IT and CTO divisions.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

University degree level education or equivalent in Data Communications, Communications Engineering or Computer Science

In depth knowledge of Data Communications technologies

A Cisco Certified Internet Expert qualification or equivalent proven practical network experience

Hold a minimum or Cisco Certified Design Professional or equivalent proven practical experience

Excellent understanding of network security principles and practical experience implementing secure and robust data communications networks

Proven experience of design, implementation and testing of network solutions including designing test campaigns and ensuring the successful delivery of validation testing

A self starter who can prioritise and manage multiple tasks efficiently and effectively as well as managing those under his/her control

An authority on most aspects of data communications networks covering wired, wireless, remote, security, monitoring, and user authentication

Excellent interpersonal skills

Ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels

Strong leadership skills

Flexibility to travel and work flexibly in differing time zones

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Experience of the preferred operating systems such as Solaris, Linux and Windows

Knowledge of Information Security practices for IT systems

Examples of technologies the networking team use currently in no particular order: Cisco ASA/IPS/IDS, Routers and Switches, Ciscoworks, Orion, HP Openview, Cacti. Palo Alto, Aruba / Cisco Wireless.
