Operations Manager
Based in Wrexham, Clwyd
Salary: Commensurate with Experience

The Role:
⦁ To head the Production Department ensuring product is produced to order achieving agreed lead times and that quality, cost, labour efficiencies and safety objectives are met
⦁ To play an active role in the Senior Management Team, leading the change culture for almost half of the employees.
⦁ To ensure compliance with legislative and Company Health, Safety and Environmental policies.
⦁ The site, buildings and plant are regularly maintained to meet operational needs and are mechanically sound and safe to use.
⦁ Manage Process Engineering to enable problem resolution to take place effectively, therefore meeting customer requirements on quality and lead times.
⦁ Strive for continuous improvement and implementation of ‘best practice’ in the operation of all processes and the management of people to achieve “Right First Time”, every time.
Accountabilities:
⦁ To lead the Production Team, Scheduling and Logistics functions ensuring adequate levels of skill and knowledge is obtained and maintained to produce the product to customer requirements, efficiently, safely and on time.
⦁ To be an effective culture change leader for the operations environment. To train, develop and empower the production team to be a highly effective, mobile, multi skilled team who are fully engaged in the development of an innovative culture.
⦁ Maintain appropriate capacity levels to meet current and future customer requirements. Manage headcount requirements, shift patterns and skill sets to meet sales targets.
⦁ To continually monitor Health, Safety and Environmental performance in relation to the total site. Liaise with relevant stakeholders and authorities to achieve full compliance (i.e. WMBC, HSE and EA). Continually assess, eliminate/minimise all adverse risks to employees, company, customers and the local area.
⦁ The site, buildings and plant are maintained using a preventative maintenance approach, minimising downtime and breakdowns using appropriate management and reporting software.
⦁ Process Control function effectively resolves production processing issues with the support of manufacturing personnel. Identifying and implementing improvement opportunities and carrying out the necessary operator training to meet the business needs.
⦁ Manage the purchasing and timely delivery of all raw materials required for manufacturing operations.
⦁ Manage departmental costs in line with or below budget and forecast/highlight expected adverse variances.
⦁ Develop and communicate departmental KPI’s and results accurately, timely and appropriately at all levels.
⦁ Maintain the focus, commitment and effectiveness of the departmental teams by the use of appropriate management techniques and style and foster good working relationships with other departments.
⦁ Identify and implement opportunities to improve processes, reduce costs, and gain overall operational efficiencies.
⦁ Working with the Executive Team, develop and maintain cross functional relationships to ensure business ‘problems’ and ‘opportunities’ can be quickly and effectively resolved/exploited to achieve business objectives.
Decision Making Authority:
⦁ To control the departments variable labour costs in respect of overtime, holiday management and absence control.
⦁ Stop/Go on all Health & Safety and Environmental issues across the site, where necessary consulting the appropriate authorities/personnel prior to decision.
⦁ Appropriate use and management of contractors to support Facilities Team to meet operational business needs.
⦁ Effective resolution of material and product issues in consultation with the relevant departments, to meet customer requirements and ensure business continuity.
⦁ The required corrective action for any department employee up to dismissal stage of the disciplinary procedure with recourse to HR/MD for input and support throughout the process.
⦁ Purchase of departmental consumables and raw materials and equipment up to budgeted level and within company policies.

⦁ Product availability for customer dispatch (Lead Times)
⦁ Product quality (rework/remills)
⦁ Scrap rates (non conforming product)
⦁ Factory efficiency and utilisation(kg man hour/batch rate)
⦁ Plant down time (OEE)
⦁ Stock levels and stock outs affecting orders
⦁ Health & Safety & Environmental measures
⦁ Operator Training
Skills & Knowledge:
Qualifications
⦁ HND/Degree (Manufacturing/Engineering)
⦁ Diploma in Management Studies (or equivalent)
Skills:
⦁ Effective and consistent Leadership

Experience:
⦁ Minimum of five years’ experience in Production Management role.
⦁ People management, in particular culture change through engagement.
