Health, Safety and Environment Advisor
Luxfer MEL Technologies is a global leader in the development, manufacture and supply of Magnesium and Zirconium based products and services to technology industries worldwide. We have approximately 300 employees across the UK & US.
Zirconium chemicals are produced at the Swinton & Flemington NJ sites from a range of raw materials to service a number of niche markets including, automotive, refinery, biomass, coatings, pharmaceutical and military/defence. Our lightweight magnesium alloys are machined or extruded to custom shapes and specifications to meet our customer requirements, and are used in high performance, safety critical aerospace, defence, healthcare, oil and gas and Formula 1.
In 2020, Luxfer Group issued an ESG report detailing our 2025 Environmental Goals, this includes 20% reduction in CO2e emissions, 10% reduction in freshwater use and 20% less waste to landfill.
The Role – Health, Safety and Environment Advisor (HSE)
As part of our continual improvement, we are looking at expanding the HSE department to help in delivering a positive safety culture across all aspects of our 45-acre site in Swinton, Greater Manchester.
You will concentrate on environmental issues, helping advise the business on all related legal compliance with all appropriate legislation, while developing and implementing HSE related strategies, policies and procedures ensuring all on site activities are compliant and on target to deliver on the Luxfer Groups Environmental Goals.
Reporting to the HSE Manager, as a Health, Safety and Environment Advisor your duties will include:
* Management of the site ISO 14001:2014 Environmental Management System
* Supporting line managers with the management of environmental issues and concerns through advice and coaching, to enhance HSE performance
* Supporting incident investigation and root cause analysis
* Waste management
* Completing reporting to Environment Agency in a timely and efficient manner
* Managing internal and external environmental audits for the business
* Developing and delivering training / ‘toolbox talks’ and lead ‘5s’ activities
* Help drive employee engagement with HSE
* Keep abreast of environmental legislative requirements and changes, and work with site to ensure ongoing compliance
* Understanding the site energy consumption, emissions, water use and waste generation to identify sustainable improvements
* Driving programmes and initiatives that will contribute to Luxfer Group’s environmental targets and initiatives
* Promoting awareness of local environmental issues and their impacts
Our Requirements – Health, Safety and Environment Advisor (HSE)
* Proven experience working in a HSE role in a manufacturing setting, including carrying out internal audits
* Degree level qualification in either chemical, toxicology or materials science or another related discipline, along with an Environmental qualification and Environment Management experience
* Experience of working with environmental agencies and of working at a 14001 accredited facility
* Knowledge of practical HSE principles and practices as well as HSE legislation
* Solid and up to date knowledge of practical environmental principles and practices as well as environmental legislation
* A good standard of computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
* A team player who demonstrates a high level of commitment, adopts a flexible, positive, and proactive approach, and able to demonstrate tenacity, and assume accountability for their work
* Self-motivated with a high level of attention to detail and the ability to use own initiative, prioritise tasks and work unsupervised
* Professional approach to work and when dealing with internal and external customers
* Excellent communication skills
* Passionate about personal development
* A keen interest in environmental matters and the threat of climate change
* Ability to analyse and present accurate data when identifying possible issues/improvements
* Good time management with focus on key dates and reporting milestones
The Package – Health, Safety and Environment Advisor (HSE)
As a Health, Safety and Environment Advisor (HSE), you will benefit from:
* A salary in the region of £36,000 – £42,000with the level dependent on qualifications and experience
* The potential to earn an annual bonus
* 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
* Company pension and opportunity to participate in the company share option scheme
A permanent contract, working 37 hours per week Monday to Friday at our Manchester facility located in Swinton. Flexibility with working hours will be required due to the nature of the role.
