Our client is an environmental and waste management company operating a permitted hazardous waste transfer station in Cheshire. The company supports a wide range of clients in the safe and environmentally responsible disposal of their hazardous waste. A vacancy currently exists for a Chemist Manager. The main purpose of the role is to support and mentor the continuing development of the existing team of Site Chemists. You will also manage and coordinate the creation and despatch of loads destined to leave the UK via trans frontier shipment (TFS) routes.
Main Duties:
- Provide first line management for the Site Chemists – liaising closely with the Stock Manager and Site Manager, identify, prioritise and assign tasks to Chemists to ensure site runs efficiently, in accordance with the company’s Integrated Management System and Environmental Permit.
- Review and implement procedures for receiving, storing, repacking and onward transfer of waste. Ensure all stored stock is in sound, sealed and suitable containers and in the correct location on site, as per HSG71 requirements.
- Ensure all waste on site is accurately represented in the stock database (Quick Consign).
- Coordinate the sampling, analysis and repacking of materials destined for TFS.
- Create outgoing TFS lists of materials compliant with the destined receiving facility.
- Arrange and agree schedules with the company’s main TFS suppliers / outlets.
- Ensure outgoing loads are prepped in good time.
- Complete the TFS paperwork and provide placarding for outgoing TFS loads.
- Ensure good housekeeping is maintained on site.
- Host Authorities, Agencies or clients during site audits and/or visits.
Candidate Requirements:
- Minimum HNC level in Chemistry (or applicable scientific field).
- Previous experience working within hazardous waste management to include line management responsibilities.
- An awareness of: HSG 71 – Chemical warehousing the storage of packaged dangerous substances; HSG 51 – Storage of flammable liquids in container; Sector Guidance Note S5.06 guidance for the recovery and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
- Counterbalance forklift truck licence.
- ADR awareness desirable.
- First Aid at Work certificate desirable.
This is a full-time, permanent job opportunity, working 7am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
