When you see the world as we do, you see the chance to help the world take better care of its resources, and help it become a better place for everyone. It’s why we’re looking for someone who sees the world in a similar way to take up an exciting General Manager role to lead our Energy from Waste facility in London.

Because of our responsibility when it comes to leading change, resourcing takes every single one of us, and this is how you can play your part. And if you’re a technical expert who leads through empowerment, this role will suit you perfectly.

It doesn’t matter if you’re looking to overhaul the industry, or just do a good day’s work. We know that everyone here at Veolia can help us work alongside our communities, look after the environment in small and big ways, and contribute towards our inclusive culture.

SELCHP plant is an established Energy from Waste facility with Heat export to the local community. The role perimeter covers two companies, one that operates and maintains the plant, and the other that owns the land & buildings. The former is a fully integrated Veolia company. The latter is a joint venture with governance tools (Board, Executive Committee, Audit Committee) to support the fact that it is owned by multiple shareholders.

What will you be doing?

As the General Manager, you will be responsible for leading a large and successful operational team, consisting of technical experts and operative staff.

  • Using your leadership skills to manage our power plant-type key asset in Central London.
  • Utilising your technical skills within the Power Generation/Energy from Waste industry to ensure the long term performance of the asset and its ability to generate cash sustainably.
  • Growing high performance technical teams through leadership and empowerment whilst overseeing the financial and commercial aspects of the plant.
  • Demonstrating your passion for health and safety to create an excellent health and safety culture.
  • Leading the strategic planning of future works.
  • Completing monthly reports and innovating to identify opportunities for process improvements.
  • Interacting with internal and external stakeholders on a regular basis.
  • Liaising with relevant experts within your region and across the business to design and implement technical solutions.
  • Communicate business objectives, performance and other matters of business to staff.
  • Chairing the Executive Committee meetings along with attendance of the Audit and Board meetings.
  • Responsibility for the tendering of Power Purchase Agreements (PPA), currently conducted on an annual basis.
  • Management of multiple business activities (each has its own P&L)
    • O&M company
    • Joint Venture Plant Owner
    • District Heating
    • Waste brokerage business
    • Incinerator Bottom Ash disposal supplier

What are we looking for?

  • Experience managing a multi-million-pound P&L.
  • Strong technical experience (We will consider experience in engineering, physics, chemistry, etc).
  • Leadership skills and experience to interact credibly with external shareholders and consultants.
  • Knowledge of ERFs or power stations, in particular, maintenance work would be advantageous.
  • Health and Safety training such as NEBOSH, environmental duties and fire safety is desirable.
  • Strong commercial acumen.
  • Ability to successfully support and manage your teams by offering them guidance and taking a mentor approach to your direct reports.
  • Ability to act with a large degree of autonomy.
