Vertex IT Recruitment

Salary: £54,000 – £66,000 per year

Role – Process Engineer – (Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Chemistry)

Location – Hybrid Guildford

Salary £54,000 – £66,000+ Share Options

The project involves the development of a prototype system based on a hybrid water-splitting process recently developed at the University of Surrey. This includes the design of a three-phase reactor and an alkaline electrolyser to operate continuously and produce hydrogen via a recirculating catalyst in the form of a slurry.

The Process Engineer will be tasked with:

  • Process design, simulation, and modelling of a disruptive water-splitting process for green hydrogen generation (preparation of flowsheets, BFD, PFD, and P&IDs);
  • Designing a three-phase reactor for catalytic water splitting at high-temperature and high-pressure conditions in a corrosive (basic) environment.
  • Integrating the reactor with an alkaline electrolyser in an appropriate process design model operating at continuous condition.
  • Designing a suitable heat recovery system based on the thermosyphon reboiler for converting the excess heat of the reactor into superheated steam; and
  • (Assist in publishing high-quality journal papers, technical reports, and/or intellectual property to maximise the impact of the project and well contribute to the design activities in collaboration with the other team members at Clean Hydrogen Ltd, University of Surrey, and Fluor Ltd.
  • The Process Engineer will work in a small team mainly with a couple of Research Assistants at the University of Surrey to develop a combined Engineering design and theoretical knowledge on the hybrid water splitting system. The role is permanent with an immediate start date.

Candidates must hold (or be close to completion of) an EngD or MEng degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Chemistry or the other relevant major degrees. Prior experience in process and equipment design and testing water electrolysers and hydrogen generation systems and characterisation is essential.

Candidates must send by email an extended CV’s (with details on education, engineering design experiences, successes, and the relevant publications to date)

In addition to the technical and experience requirements, the company is ideally looking for someone with a passion for the field of research, a desire to work in a start-up with the ambition to play a key role in something significant as it grows. It might suit someone on secondment or sabbatical from another institution or organisation and the role could be flexible to suit the right candidate.
