Grounds Maintenance Operative

Salary: Circa £20,720
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent
Location: Manchester Region

Reporting to the Grounds Maintenance Working Supervisor, the Grounds Maintenance Operative is responsible for undertaking grounds maintenance activities on sites within Great Places Neighbourhoods..

PURPOSE OF ROLE:

  • To undertake grounds maintenance works to communal environments including communal grounds around homes, open space grassed area, and landscaped areas and to deliver a maintenance programme as part of a team that contributes to excellent service delivery.
  • To work with caretaking teams and other GPHG colleagues and external partners to maintain clean, green and safe environments. Seasonally assist with snow and ice removal, gritting and litter picking and fly tip removal.
  • Reporting of communal and environmental maintenance issues and joint working with others to deliver excellent services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To report directly to the Grounds Maintenance Working Supervisor in relation to the delivery of the grounds maintenance service.
  • To complete grounds maintenance activities to Great Places schemes and communal environmental areas to the requirements of Great Places Grounds Maintenance Specification including grass cutting, edging, hedge trimming, planting, spraying, and clearance of leaves and litter.
  • The operation of a range of hand tools and equipment (inc. power tools), and vehicles and to carry out daily defect checks of tools and equipment, completing basic maintenance tasks of it and reporting damage and maintenance issues with them.
  • To report any graffiti, vandalism, repairs and defects in the external communal areas where you are working.
  • To seasonally assist with snow and ice clearance, gritting activities and other health and safety maintenance required on Great Places schemes.
  • To adhere to all relevant quality standards and health and safety/COSHH requirements.
  • To undertake daily checks of vehicles and equipment and ensure equipment is kept in a clean condition and stored correctly.
  • To work safely with herbicides/pesticides in accordance with regulations and report invasive weeds.
  • To report any safeguarding concerns in line with organisation guidelines.
  • To support the Working Supervisor and contribute to team briefings and meetings.
  • To undertake any other duties appropriate to the purpose of the post as required by the Organisation.

Person Specification

QUALIFICATIONS & PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS: Desirable

  • NVQ Level 2
  • First Aid Certificate (you will be asked to undertake relevant training
  • PA1 and PA6A certificates

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • Experience of working in a grounds maintenance role or similar role
  • Experience of using a range of power tools and equipment.
  • Experience of a wide range of grounds maintenance activities e.g. Litter picking, mowing, planting, strimming and pruning.
  • Ability to carry out vehicle and equipment checks
  • Ability to lift waste and loose materials by hand
  • Ability to complete grounds maintenance tasks to the required standard within a specified time.
  • Ability to use a computer/tablet/hand held device and utilise computer based information for training and operational purposes
  • Ability to anticipate problems and find solutions without needing constant supervision
  • Ability to work within health and safety guidelines applicable to the role.

  • Ability to work as part of a team, and be self motivated to work on own initiative
  • Ability to communicate courteously with colleagues and customers
  • Literate and numerate and able to complete necessary paperwork and follow instructions
  • Ability to work within standard operating hours of the service as outlined in the job description

  • Ability to work flexibly across different locations to meet the needs of the service
