Salary: £14.4 – £18 per hour

Our local authority client has a 6-month contract vacancy (with the possibility of extension) for the role of a TREE INSPECTOR, details as follows

Job Purpose

To provide specialist advice to the organisation relating to trees and the statutory requirements to ensure that they are maintained in a safe condition. The work will require detailed tree inspections and making recommendations with regard to public safety. The Tree Inspector will require the ability to help develop a suitable inspection regime, with the guidance of the existing tree inspector and for the contractor undertaking safety work, prioritising the most serious hazards.

Responsibilities

  • To implement policies for the care and maintenance of trees in the care of the organisation.
  • To deal with enquiries regarding trees from the public and interested groups with a high degree of customer care
  • To inspect the Organisation’s tree stock in parks, schools, highway verges, public rights of way and other sites with a view to proactive management on a rolling programme.
  • To inspect trees adjacent to the highway that may not be in the Organisation’s ownership.
  • To inspect trees that would form part of the Ash dieback survey.
  • To collect and accurately record tree survey data including location, species, size, age, health, vigour, condition and defects.
  • To specify any safety works required in accordance with the Organisation’s schedule of rate.
  • To raise orders, supervise works on site and sign off order for payment upon satisfactory completion.

Essential Requirements

  • A formal national qualification in Arboriculture to at least Certificate level 3 (level 2 also acceptable if you have tree inspection experience or tree inspector certificate).
  • Experience of dealing with the inspection of trees. The post holder may have done this sort of work previously or could have recently become qualified.
  • Experience of community involvement in the management of trees and woodlands.
  • Experience of raising awareness of trees and woodlands and their importance to local communities.
  • Experience of arranging or supervised arboricultural operations on the public highway.
  • Excellent knowledge of practical management methods for managing and maintaining trees in parks, woodlands and in highway locations.
  • An ability to use Arbortrack, Email and Outlook and to use a web browser to access information.
  • A basic ability to use Microsoft Office software.
  • An ability to use Geographical Information systems.
  • An ability to walk for considerable distances each day for several hours at a time.
