Who are we?
Thames Water is the UK’s largest water and wastewater company. We make a daily difference to our 15 million customers by supplying 2.6 billion litres of water through 32,000 km of pipes, keeping taps flowing and toilets flushing.

At Thames Water, every one of our actions, big and small, matters every day. Water is essential to life, so our business is always open – and this matters even more through a pandemic.

We’re proud of the positive ways of working we’ve adopted during the pandemic, creating a more flexible and dynamic environment so all our colleagues can thrive. For our office-based roles, we’re moving to a hybrid approach with various options across working from home, office and our sites. We’ll cover this during the assessment process.

What you’ll be doing
Reporting to the Energy Performance & Change Manager, as the Energy Programme Manager, you’ll work with the Energy, Engineering and Delivery teams to drive the delivery of our ambitious AMP7 Energy & Carbon investment plan, delivering benefits in the form of energy efficiencies and performance commitments.
Accountable for the Energy Programme, you’ll manage the unbriefed and briefed programmes, providing oversight throughout delivery to ensure benefits are realised upon completion. You’ll ensure that effective processes are in place to identify, monitor and resolve change at the project and programme levels.

You’ll also support the production of timely and comprehensive annual capital budgets, quarterly re-forecasts and monthly financial and progress reporting.
Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Provide clear direction and ownership of the Energy programme, ensuring that programmes briefed into Delivery include baselines and key milestones against which progress can be measured. Employ critical thinking capability to drive value into the plan at an early stage
  • Provide inputs to portfolio management teams in order to facilitate balancing the wider needs of Thames Water as appropriate
  • Identify key risks across the energy programme and guide the development of mitigation plans as appropriate
  • Sponsor energy projects at the relevant governance meetings in line with the Stage-Gate process
  • Work with the Technical teams through optioneering, feasibility and outline design to achieve single, preferred solutions within the budget provision
  • Ensure end-user consultation has taken place and is embedded in the preferred solution
  • Align all processes and procedures with other Capital Programme Manager(s) to ensure consistency is applied across the entire Delivery Portfolio
  • Build strong relationships across Delivery Office and across the wider business

We’re looking for you to

  • Have a relevant technical degree and/or membership in a professional body preferable (e.g. APM/ Practitioner MSP/ Prince2/P3O/PPSO/ITIL)
  • Provide management, direction, and development of people in a culture of accountability and achievement
  • Be highly knowledgeable in project and programme management (Energy projects preferable)
  • Possess strong commercial awareness (essential)
  • Have technical awareness of the programme portfolio (desirable)
  • Possess the ability to analyse data and make decisions on partial information to maintain an optimised delivery programme
  • Be adept in project planning, estimating and financial forecasting with a working knowledge of best practice methodologies
  • Possess strong influencing and negotiation skills, be highly organised with a strong drive and a problem-solving approach
  • Have a full driving licence as you may travel to key business sites
