Night Manager

4* Hotel

4 days on and 3 days off.

£27,400 + tips+overtime + service charge

JOB TITLE:

All departments RESPONSIBLE FOR:

Night Supervisor, Night Porters JOB PURPOSE:

To be responsible for all aspects of security within the Hotel including the safety of both guests and staff whilst on duty.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

People Management, Development and Training

• To carry out the Night Audit Procedures following the Front of Manager’s instructions

• Responsible for the supervision of the Hotel between 10.45pm – 7.15am

• To comply with statutory and legal requirements for fire, health and safety, hygiene, licensing and employment law and ensure that all members of the team are also trained accordingly

• To carry out daily briefings, handovers with Duty Manager and the team

• Any issues relating to staff during the night should be reported to the Line Manager

• To supervise night supervisor and porters on duty ensuring that they are carrying out their roles correctly, and that security patrol checks are being carried out on a regular basis

• To ensure effective communication within your team by holding daily briefing sessions and attending departmental meetings on a monthly basis

• To record time keeping and sickness of staff and act if these are at an unacceptable level

• To effectively train any new staff that join the team, be a trainer and buddy for all members

• To ensure the smooth running of the reception team and related areas during your shift

• To take full responsibility of all the H&S matters for the Night Team department

• To immediately report any maintenance faults to Maintenance following the correct procedure

• To fully participate in any training identified as beneficial to you and your role

• Attend Job chats and Performance Reviews

• To follow the hotel house rules and known regulations when dealing with staff and guests. Staff who should not be on the premises should be asked to leave and escorted off the premises

Sales and Service delivery

• To control payroll costs for the department by allocating labour resources in line with forecasted business levels

• To manage/control all departmental operating costs in line with forecasted business levels

• To maximise occupancy by taking late bookings and offering where appropriate discounted rates

• To operate the computer software efficiently and have adequate knowledge for checking-in late arrivals and checking-out early departures

• To have a thorough knowledge of the computer system, bar tills and the Hotel systems in general

• To know the correct procedures for the handling of cash, payments and foreign currency

• To operate the switchboard in a polite and efficient manner and take clear and concise messages. In addition to operate the fax machine and photocopier where necessary

• To ensure that the guest history is kept updated and accurate

• To have good product knowledge of the Hotel and the area with regards to restaurants, banking facilities etc. for guest information

• To ensure that all problems are dealt with as effectively and quickly as possible

• To ensure the security of the Hotel, including any cash that may be in the float, and any valuables or luggage that have been handed over. To be aware of any individuals who look suspicious and to ensure that room keys are only handed over to guests who have a key card or are known to you

• To be responsible for the health and safety of all guests and staff on the premises whilst on duty – with reference to the fire alarm procedure and bomb procedure – and knowing the correct ways of dealing with such problems

• To conduct fire and safety inspections throughout the hotel property in accordance with the fire plan and fire protection procedure

• To follow company procedures in relation to accidents, general emergencies including safe custody of guest’s belongings

• To make sure full Hotel services are delivered to all residents, including bar service, 24-hour room service and guest information, in a timely manner

• Oversee the delivery of all newspapers to the guest rooms

• To ensure that the public areas of the Hotel are cleaned during the night shift

• To ensure that the Conference & Banqueting areas are clean by instructing the Night Porters to their duties

• Regular security and clock rounds

• To efficiently welcome guests to the Hotel and ensure that they receive appropriate service before retiring to their room e.g. bar drinks, room service, wake-up calls etc.

• To be punctual, smart, correctly uniformed and polite, courteous and helpful to guests always

Profit Protection

• To continually liaise with sales teams with specific regard to rate negotiation and availability

• Responsible for ensuring revenue capture is maximized

• Responsible for exploring, suggesting, initiating and maximizing any opportunity for additional sales/revenue

Administration

• To co-operate fully with the Company in maintaining a safe & secure working environment, adhering to all relevant Security, Fire, Health & Safety & Food Safety legislation and procedures

• Ensure security for both self and all departments

• Guest property lost/found procedure is adhered to

Additional responsibilities

• To undertake ad hoc duties as required

• To ensure all activities and responsibilities are conducted within and comply with operating guidelines; the signing of contracts on behalf of the company and hotel is not permitted
