UK Biobank is a multi-million pound project funded principally by the Wellcome Trust and the Medical Research Council to determine the causes of complex diseases such as diabetes, cancer and heart disease. We have recruited 500,000 volunteer participants from the UK population who have completed extensive baseline assessments where they gave information about their family and medical history, their lifestyle and the environment in which they live. Participants underwent a range of physical measures and tests and provided samples of blood, urine and saliva that are processed at UK Biobank and archived in ultra-low temperature archives. We will follow the health of these individuals by linking electronically to their medical and other health related records.
Having successfully completed the main recruitment phase, UK Biobank launched access to this unique Resource in March 2012, to be used by approved researchers from the international scientific community in studies to determine causative factors in common disease.
To support recent developments, UK Biobank seeks to recruit additional Access Administrators to provide key support across the business. The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience of working at a similar level and proven administrative and office skills. They will need to be able to plan, organise and anticipate requirements to support the smooth running of the business. The ability to organise and prioritise tasks will be a key requirement. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with experience of dealing with a range of external stakeholders, are essential.
