Salary:  £46,917 to £58, 646, dependent on experience + pension + 25 days holiday per annum

Location: Bradford (hybrid working)

 

*You will be providing 24/7 cover for critical production systems as part of a standby rota*

 

Purpose of the role

As our Platforms Team Leader, you will be managing a team of colleagues to maintain the company database of medium to high complexity, whilst driving the development of policies, strategies and standards across the Database Administration Team. Providing subject matter expertise to other technology teams, key customers and senior managers and leading activities to optimise database configuration and access, you will ensure the Database Administrators (DBA) resolve database capacity and performance issues in a timely manner and will be accountable for database recovery and back up. You will also:

 

Be responsible for all aspects of people management for your team, including but not limited to performance management, coaching and mentoring, resourcing and training
Contribute to the creation and maintenance of strategic roadmaps for relevant technology stacks and write database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata)
Develop and execute periodic quality controls to verify data accuracy, independently analysing, solving and correcting issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end
Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product life-cycle environments, from development through to mission-critical production systems
Apply relational and dimensional data modelling techniques to ensure development and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectations
Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentoring and cross-training to other peers and team members
Participate in projects to ensure database configuration, access and design compliance
Set and maintain database standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act and develop processes for optimising database security
Create and manage database reports, visualisations and dashboards, automating repeating database tasks and carry out capacity planning
Commission and install new applications and customise existing applications to ensure they are fit for purpose
Coordinate database checkpoint frequencies, archive logging, resource usage with programmers and System Administrators and assist analysts with complex tuning and schema refinement
Keep abreast of changes within the infrastructure technologies, influencing the exploitation of existing, emerging, and new technologies to meet business objectives
Consider both back-end organisation of data and front-end accessibility for end-users, refining the logical design so it can be translated into a specific data model
Further refine the physical design to meet system storage requirements, ensuring storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly and install and test new versions of the database management system (DBMS)
Knowledge and Skills Required

Essential:

As our Platform Team Leader, you will have excellent knowledge of integration with various infrastructures within an enterprise organisation, strong working knowledge of ANSI SQL, be familiar with the ITIL framework and have proven experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle DB, PostgreSQL, SQLite, MySQL and other relational database systems.  You will also have:

Experience in supporting mission critical production systems, with the ability to implement policies and procedures to ensure the security and integrity of the database(s)
Experience with Windows Server environments and Linux environments and understand Linux system administration, scripting and process automation
Knowledge and capability of delivering documentation, testing and release management principles
Excellent knowledge and understanding of service continuity planning and IT security
Advanced knowledge of database security, backup and recovery and performance monitoring standards
Strong interpersonal skills with positive experience of developing and maintaining effective internal and external relationships within one or more technology disciplines
Strong mathematical and statistical knowledge with impeccable attention to detail
Ability to absorb complex technical information and communicate effectively to all levels, for technical and non-technical audiences both written and oral communications.
Creativity and lateral thinking, with proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Desirable:

Knowledge and experience of cloud database systems
PowerShell and Unix shell scripting skills
Familiarity with SSAS, SSIS, SSRS
MCSA SQL qualified
Oracle DBA Certified Professional
