They now have several opportunities to join them at HMP Wayland. They are looking for two Functional Skills Tutors (Maths & English), a Personal & Social Development Tutor, a Cover Supervisor (supporting tutors in delivering the curriculum and covering classes where required), and a Vocational Technician/Cover Tutor (supporting the Construction & Engineering Tutors). You will be asked to state which role you are applying for on the application form.

As a Tutor you will identify the individual needs of learners ensuring that all have an Individual Learning Plan. Continually reviewing their progression to make sure that the training continues to meet their needs, you will prepare and deliver comprehensive lesson plans for all sessions.

The roles of the Cover Supervisor and Vocational Technician/Cover Tutor involve working with the Education Manager, Curriculum Managers and other staff to familiarise yourself with the curriculum and individual schemes of work. Covering appropriate classes and ensuring learners work is assessed, you will review offender progression and actively gain feedback. The Vocational Technician also includes supporting the maintenance of the workshop areas; organising tools and consumable materials whilst providing technical assistance to tutors and learners.

As a suitable candidate, you will ideally hold a Certification in Education or equivalent, and a subject specification at Level 4. For the Tutor roles, you will have previous experience of developing and delivering curriculum programmes of learning and planning, on a roll-on, roll-off programme, and have a passion to motivate and lead by example.

For the Cover Tutor roles, having experience of supporting learning to mixed ability groups is key, as is a high level of flexibility as you may be required to cover classes at short notice. With a desire to develop your teaching side of the role, you will be able to communicate clearly, and have the ability to be empathic to the needs of prisoners whilst remaining focused on targets. As a Vocational Technician, it is preferred if you have a level 3 vocational qualification in a relevant trade.
