Salary: £26,000 per year

Our client is an exciting company, propagating Sphagnum moss in a unique sustainable way, for peatland restoration and climate change mitigation. We are looking for a practical person with a scientific or technical background to manage the execution of an innovative new agricultural scheme for a horticultural company. This Trials Manager position is responsible to run the day-to-day planning, logistics and execution of 3-year Sphagnum Farming trials, alongside various other project partners.

As part of the Innovations, Research & Development team you will report to the Project Manager.

In summary, the role will include:
• Supervising set-up of growing sites
• Liaising with other project partners on the various farms and at universities
• Maintenance of the growing environment
• Collection and analysis of data
• Quality of plants grown in farming operation

Main Responsibilities:
• Day-to-day management of multi-site project
• Regular reporting and communication of project progress and results
• Planning and logistics of trials
• Regular monitoring of trial progress – physical and scientific results
• Collection, analysis and presentation of qualitative and quantitative data
• Management of glasshouse experiments/trials – monitoring, data collection and results
• Procurement to a budget, having created a budget with the Project Manager

Person Requirements:
Ideally 5+ years of agricultural/horticultural experience
Science/agronomy degree
Experience or practical knowledge/skills in agricultural sector
Ability to converse confidently with farmers & growers
Practically-minded. You must have good working knowledge of basic farm machinery

Experience/knowledge of:
• Growing crops/plants (e.g. husbandry)
• Managing projects – e.g. logistics, budget, people, results
• Leadership role and working as a team
• Identifying systems improvements and implementing them
• Rigorous information recording, data collection, analysis and reporting
