A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Transport Manager to join a progressive organisation at their Global Distribution Centre in Leicester. The role would suit an individual who has an ability to look at a business from very much a strategic and operational perspective who possesses an astute commercial mind who always considers driving a business forward with the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives.
As a senior member of the Logistics Management team you will be expected to be acutely aware of transport legislation and any proposed changes to ensure Company compliance. You will need to have an understanding of the end to end supply chain so you can co-ordinate the chain effectively. You need to be astute and commercially aware of external influences such as, fuel costs and environmental pressures. Continual consideration is to be given as to how business development can fit with sustainability, without impacting customer service agreements. It is an expectation that you will have a longer term vision and continually look to improve our transport operation, carrying out technology reviews to determine where further improvements can be achieved.
You will play an active role in the daily control of a HGV fleet, which provides a delivery and collection service for our Group. The fleet consists of 25 HGV vehicles and trailers based in 3 operational centres. You will have management responsibility for a Transport Manager, an administrator, 2 Team Leaders, 15 Drivers and 22 Warehouse Operatives. Applicants must hold the correct qualifications relevant to Transportation Management, including a National Certificate of Professional Competence; an international Certificate of Professional Competence would be advantageous.
You will be an experienced manager, with a strong commercial and financial awareness, setting and managing budgets that will drive cost savings. Exposure to resource planning, dealing with all new legislation and Health and Safety matters is essential, along with excellent people management skills, capable of communicating effectively to the team, and inspiring them to achieve all KPI’s. You will be looking for an opportunity that will both demonstrate and challenge your capabilities. Flexible working hours will be required, in order to manage employees of different shift patterns.
