The Trainee Advisor on International Food Sustainability will work closely with both internal and external stakeholders, identifying and sourcing the evidence necessary to develop and deliver plans that will reduce the environmental impact of food and food waste. As part of his/her development, appropriate opportunities for developing knowledge, skills and experience will be provided across the Food Sustainability Programme, whilst the main focus of the Trainee’s role will comprise the four specific accountabilities described below. The Trainee is expected to learn and develop over a defined period of 12 months so that he/she is able to undertake a wide range tasks and accountabilities as may arise during the further development of the businesses International Food Sustainability activities. It is anticipated that the Trainee will also undertake work for international organisations such as the EU and UN in the area of food waste reduction and food sustainability.
Key Accountabilities.
• Developing an evidence programme on healthy sustainable diets, with a particular focus on the win-win with food waste prevention (e.g. portion control, kitchen skills, promoting 5-a-day). Identify evidence gaps and the potential for changes to food products and behaviour change.
• Developing understanding of the potential for catalysing changes in food waste & food sustainability internationally and existing work towards this objective, with an initial focus on the EU & North America.
• Contributing to WRAPs International Food Waste Strategy, developing own technical focus through building WRAP’s evidence base on food waste/food sustainability evidence & actions globally
• Contributing to the delivery of the EU-funded FUSIONS project
Personal Profile.
• Educated to at least degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
• Demonstrable understanding of food systems in the UK & beyond.
• Demonstrably computer literate in Microsoft Office packages.
• Highly numerate.
• Evidence of engaging & convincing others through effective communication, including presentation skills.
• Evidence of the ability to influence & negotiate partnerships which contribute to the delivery of shared goals.
• Experience of working with the food industry that can be developed further into positive stakeholder relationships for the benefit of reducing food waste & increasing food sustainability.
• Personal resilience demonstrated by coping with change, ambiguity & uncertainty
• Demonstrable evidence of flexibility & commitment to undertaking whatever tasks need to be done for the team and the business.
