Technical Sales Engineer – Lasers / Optics

A UK manufacturer of cutting-edge laser technology is searching for a technical Sales Engineer to drive their business forward, predominantly in the academic sector.

The position will be focusing on an international territory so they are ideally looking for candidates with experience in either Europe or North America.

You will need to be knowledgeable of laser technology and have either technical sales experience or have experience in a customer facing engineering role with the drive to move into sales.

You will probably spend about 25% of your time overseas developing your customer base and when back in the UK should ideally be based from their Hampshire office on the south coast. Should you be slightly further afield a split may be negotiated where you could work from home one or two days per week.

Location: Hampshire office based with travel to either Europe or North America depending on prior experience and agreed territory.

The basic salary will vary between £36,000 – £48,000depending on the experience obtained. There will also be a performance related commission scheme that will increase earnings by £5-10k.

Main duties
– Independently expand sales enquiries
– Actively chase leads
– Offer technical advice to both new and existing customers
– Create quotations
– Demonstrate product
– Present to clients at various levels of seniority
– Exhibit on behalf of the company at relevant trade shows

Desired skills & experience
– HNC/Degree in relevant engineering or physical science subject
– The successful candidate will most likely have experience doing business in the academic sector, ideally in a sales position
– Have experience in either a European or North American territory
– Experience within the laser/optics market with an awareness of short pulse & ultra-fast lasers
