£21,314 per annum increasing to £23,464 from April 2024.

We have a fantastic opportunity to join our team here at The South Lakes Next Steps Accommodation Service (NSAP) in Kendal.
The South Lakes NSAP is our homelessness service. We?ve been open since 2020 and we were opened in direct response to the governments ?Next Steps Accommodation Progreamme?.

My name is James and I am the Operations Manager for the South Lakes Next Steps Accommodation Service. I have been at Home Group for 14 years in February and I can genuinely say Home Group is a fantastic place to work.
Here at the South Lakes NSAP, we support people who have been homeless or are at risk of homelessness. Each of our customers has their own story and understanding this is key in the role of Support Worker.
You?d be working for Joanna who is our Senior Client Service Manager. Joanna was a Support Worker and has progressed to senior management which is a fantastic example of the opportunities available in Home Group.
We have a fab team of 6 support workers and coordinators and night concierge team here at the South Lakes NSAP. As well as looking out for our customers, we look out for each other too.
We are a 24.7 service. We have a night concierge team who work our night shifts and our support workers will work predominately between the hours of 8am and 8pm Monday ? Sunday. Typical shifts are on a 3-week rolling pattern.
What is a typical day as a Support Worker?
- Assisting customers with practical, daily living tasks to develop their independence, helping them to achieve the goals, aspirations and outcomes documented in their support plans.
- Running customer activities in the service, encouraging customers to interact with other customers and build the skills they need to achieve independence.
- You will support customers to access external groups and agencies to build up their own support networks for when they are ready to move into independent accommodation.
- You would be supporting customers to build the skills they need to maintain permanent independent accommodation. This might be things like budgeting, paying bills, setting up utilities, ensuring their property is clean and tidy, cooking good healthy meals.
- Liaising with external agencies and brining those agencies around the table to provide the support your customers need to hit their goals.
- Working with customers to secure permanent accommodation.

- You need to be someone who get?s a buzz from seeing someone achieve something they have been working towards, no matter how small.
- You will be someone who is able to work with other agencies and pull them in to support your customers to be their best.
- If you have worked in support, care or housing before ? that?d be great. But it?s the people skills we are looking for. We can teach you the rest so do not let that put you off.
- You?ll need an Enhanced DBS check done and we pay for that.
