Stock Control Scientist

Jason Johal at CK Science is currently recruiting for a Stock Control Scientist to join a major new initiative to grow the cell therapy industry delivering health and wealth for the UK. Its vision is for the UK to be a global leader in the development, delivery and commercialisation of cell therapy, and a place where businesses can start, and confidently grow. To further enable this, the company will be establishing a UK cell and gene manufacturing hotel (CGMH) based in Hertfordshire following a �55 million investment. The purpose of this facility will be the GMP manufacture of cell and gene products for Phase III clinical trials, to augment the current UK manufacturing capability, which is anticipated to reach capacity by 2017. This large scale manufacturing centre will supplement the process development and scale-up capabilities already established in-house at their London site. This has created a
new opportunity for a Stock Control Scientist to work with the Tech Transfer Lead to help contribute to many of the day to day activities of the laboratories.

The purpose of this role is to source quality laboratory products and to ensure the continued supply of these products and various consumables to laboratories. The role will also include general purchasing within scientific categories.

Your main responsibilities in this role will be to:
� Establish and then lead the stock acquisition, receipt, storage and management process for laboratory consumables and reagents
� Ensure stock control and holding of suitable levels of laboratory products, compatible with expiry dates and project needs
� Prepare shopping carts and purchase orders for routine and non-routine items
� Lead the progression of urgent orders, through approval, PO generation and communication with suppliers
� Follow up with suppliers and communication of delivery times to project teams
� Take receipt of items and preparation of goods received notes
� Rapidly respond to the receipt of temperature critical items
� Contact new suppliers on instruction from the lab team to create a customer account and develop a supplier relationship
� Assist the finance team to assess goods received against invoices and regular stock checks
� Return incorrect items under instruction from the lab team
� Update and manage the ordering tracking systems in place
� Maintain the stock room in a clean, safe and presentable state
� Provide ad-hoc support for laboratory area staff as required

You are required to have the following qualifications, skills and experience:
� Experience of working in a laboratory or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment
� Experience of electronic purchasing systems would be desirable
� Familiarity with standard life sciences laboratory consumables
� The ability to learn and recognise specialist and non-routine lab consumables
� Previous experience in the use of an ERP system (SAP by design) for ordering and goods receipting is desirable, alternatively demonstrated ability to learn the use of electronic and online systems
� Knowledge of general lab consumables is essential, knowledge of cell therapy and bioprocessing specific items is desirable
� The ability to work quickly and accurately, take initiative, when required
� The ability to work across departments
� Experience of negotiation with suppliers to achieve value for money
� A good team player
� Educated up to at least A level or equivalent
� A BSc in a life science or equivalent experience of working in a laboratory environment would be desirable

If you are employed by this client you will be joining a new initiative that is the UK’s response to the translational gap between early-stage research and the later stages of clinical development in regenerative medicine and that will be shaping the UK cell therapy landscape. This role is offered on a full time permanent basis and will be based initially at the company’s offices in London, however may later be based at the Manufacturing Centre in Hertfordshire at a later date. Therefore to be successful the candidate must be flexible between these two locations.
