Steel Processing Operative / Material Handler

A Steel Processing Operative / Material Handler is required for a multi national steel company based in the Oldbury area of the Black Country. Duties include handling palletized and sheet steel using a counterbalance FLT, loading/unloading vehicles using a pendant overhead crane, supporting machine operators and packing finished products. Position is on a 3 shift rotating system including Nights, rate of pay starts at £26,000on double days, £9.20 on nights increasing after 12 weeks.

Full duties for the role include –

Driving a counterbalance FLT to load and unload vehicles with stock
Handling pallets / sheet steel packs safely
Operating a 25ton pendant overhead crane to move steel stock around the site
Supporting machine operators, keeping them fed with materials
Banding up of processed steel ready for dispatch
Training provided to safely operate a pendant overhead crane

Applicants MUST have a valid counterbalance FLT License with at least 3 months validity left on it. A background within the steel industry, and experience on an overhead crane is highly advantageous, however training will be given to the right candidate. A solid checkable work history is essential for the role.

Position is on a 3 shift rotating system of 6am – 2pm / 2pm – 10pm / 10pm – 6am rotating shifts Mon to Fri

Rate of pay starts at £26,000per year on AM/PM shifts, then £9.20 on Nights.

Wage increase after completing 12 weeks on site, and will also be eligible for weekly production bonus

Position is a long term contract with scope to become permanent for the right person.
