Software Applications Engineer

Salary: £36,000 – £42,000 per year

This new and unique opportunity for a Software Applications Engineer would suit a recently qualified graduate with a BSc, BEng, MEng or MSc or equivalent in Physics, Electronics or an Engineering discipline where you have used control systems software packages.

You’ll relish the chance to develop and use your knowledge in software and hardware to support customer applications in optics, fibre optics, lasers and electronics, combined with application development and product testing.

As the Software Applications Engineer you’ll be good at gathering technical information to understand a customer application, then through collaboration, identify solutions to troubleshoot problems, generate new ideas, identify continuous improvement opportunities, and provide feedback.

What the Software Applications Engineer role involves:

• You’ll provide front-line support for their high-tech products using your outstanding communication skills via the telephone and email, supporting the global customer base, predominantly comprising Academic, Government and Commercial sectors
• Work closely supporting the global technical support teams, internal engineering teams and customers in their use of automated motion control packages – Kinesis (.NET Framework) & APT (Active X Framework)
• Help integrate all company software and hardware into customers third-party development environments such as LabVIEW, Python, C#, MATLAB, C++, VB.NET
• Utilising customer feedback you’ll have input into product design and new ideas, assist in developing testing and performance, Identifying new opportunities for products through customer conversations
• Share information, knowledge and resources in a collaborative and continual personal development environment
• With focussed product training, you will receive on the job continuous development with the manager and peers, encompassing the entire product range of >20,000 products through 1:1 and video training
• Occasionally attend tradeshows c 3 – 4/year or attend customer visits (UK and overseas) for trouble shooting, testing or demonstrating products applications

 Software Applications Engineer skills and qualities

• Experience of the integration of API’s into third party applications

• Competency with LabVIEW, Python, C#, MATLAB, C++, VB.NET

• BSc, BEng, MEng or MSc or equivalent industry experience in Physics, Electronics or an Engineering discipline, ideally with knowledge in photonics, optics, fibre optics, interferometry or lasers. Would suit a recent graduate with a strong use of software
• Strong communication ability to provide clear information, combined with customer skills that instil confidence and knowledge
• Computer literate, attention to detail and sound time-management experience
