Senior Test Engineer

This is a very hands on role for a senior person with at least 20 years experience in testing finished consumer and trade products to CE standards.

We already have a team and senior test engineer in our London site and are looking to replicate this team at our National Distribution Centre in Alfreton, Derbyshire.

Once this person is appointed they will be tasked with recruiting test engineers 2-4 person to make up a viable team.

Consumer products
Responsibilities:
• You will be responsible for the day to day operation and development of this facility.
• Your primary responsibility will be the testing and approval of new sourced proposed product introductions plus the creation, verification and validation of their associated compliance documentation.
• You will report to the Site General Manager regarding staff personnel and welfare issues and the Purchasing Director – Epping for Engineering and Product matters. You will also liaise with the existing Senior Test Engineer and his team in London.
• Your responsibilities will include the line management and mentoring of subordinate staff on product engineering, legislation and compliance matters.
Duties:
• To ensure that all product testing is carried out in accordance with Clarke test protocol and European Standards / legislation.
• The verifications and validation of product compliance documentation.
• The creation and maintenance of Product Construction files.
• Formulation and deployment of departmental work priorities / schedules.
• Provide guidance for British standards / EU directives and legislation
The creation and implementation of the following product documentation
• Technical specifications / Construction files/ Risk assessment /Improvement proposals / test programs.

Experience:
Must have the following experience:
1. Have an Electro-mechanical HNC/HND or equivalent qualification.
2. At least 10 years experience working in a consumer product testing environment, testing electrical and mechanical products to CE standards.
3. Be P.C, literate and able to operate Microsoft office applications.
4. Must be able to apply hands on approach to testing of mechanical products.
5. Product testing could include these product groups
• Hydraulic presses, cranes for garage use
• Garage Equipment to include bottle and trolley jacks
• Surface and Submersible Pumps.
• Full range of electrical and mechanical product as required.
• Air compressors
• Generators both petrol and diesel
6. Knowledge of at least the following European Directives:
• Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) 2011/65/EC
• Supply of Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC
• Low Voltage Directive 2006/95 EC
• Noise emissions of Outdoor equipment 2000/14/EC

Existing products:
• Creation and maintenance of product technical files and specifications.
• Inspection and approval of revised or replacement conformity documentation. (certification)
• Investigation and approval of product design changes.(upkeep of technical files)
• Investigation and formulation of responses relating to Q.C and product enquires.
• Dealing with company internal product enquiries.
