Senior OpenERP – Python Developer
While the customer-facing web site is our shop-front, the beating heart of the business is our ERP application. We use OpenERP, an open source Python web application, to handle stock management, order fulfillment, supplier orders, warehouse and shipping logistics. It also handles sales made over the phone and sales to trade customers, and provides financial data necessary for our accounting system. An efficient supply chain is a key part of our business model, and we would like to be able to use the data in OpenERP to answers question like how lead-time of products impacts sales, to forecast sales and calculate which products to order in what quantities and when.
The Company is also at heart a technology company, so we strive to be world-class in our use of technology, and to find world-class people to work for us. Software development is a craft and we are looking to for someone to lead and mentor the team in the principles of software craftsmanship. We would like to be making a significant contribution to the developer community, and the OpenERP project specifically.
What you’ll be doing
Leading the team in implementing engineering practices such as TDD, and mentor the developers in Python development best practices.
Working with the business and the Product Owner at the early stages of ideas to determine feasibility and possible technical approaches.
Working as part of the agile team developing new modules and expanding on existing ones to implement user stories that form part of larger projects defined by the Product Owner.
One sprint in four, working on small changes in a Kanban process, and acting as primary contact for end users.
Planning the scalability of the application to meet future requires as the business expands across Europe.
Taking an active role in the Python and OpenERP development communities; identifying where we can solve a generic problem and contribute modules or individual changes back the community.what you’ll need
5+ years’ experience in commercial software development
2+ years’ experience in Python-based web development
Experience working with PostgresSQL, pSQL and PGsql
Hands-on experience of TDD (and possibly BDD)
Experience mentoring more junior developers, and introducing new technologies and tools to a team
Experience setting up Continuous Integration, automated deployment (and possibly Continuous Delivery)
Knowledge of Git and a view on the best branching strategy
A good understanding of the principles of agile development
Good communication skills in English and a problem solving approach
Enthusiasm for the craft of software development and a desire to get stuff doneIt would also be an advantage if you have
A degree in Computer Science or other engineering related subject
An understanding of ecommerce, supply chain, logistics and finance
Experience implementing OpenERP in a retail environment,
Good functional knowledge of the OpenERP base modules
Involvement in an open source project
A blog on some aspect of software development, a history of speaking at events or other developer community involvementwhat we offer
