Salary: £48,000 – £60,000 per year
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical R&D Engineer to work for a machinery manufacturer in Stoke-on-Trent.
The candidate must have a broad experience in new machinery builds. Knowledge of working with close tolerance components is essential, value engineering experience, innovative thinking, electrical / software experience will be useful but not essential. Key factors are self-motivation and the competence to work unsupervised.
Summary of Duties & Responsibilities
• Design and implement new development projects and innovations.
• Manage value engineering projects on existing product lines.
• Develop a project specification with colleagues, often including those from other engineering disciplines
• Develop, test, and evaluate theoretical designs
• Discussing and solving complex problems with manufacturing departments, sub-contractors, suppliers and customers
• Making sure a product can be made reliably and will perform consistently in specified operating environments
• Managing projects using engineering principles and techniques
• Planning and designing new production processes
• Producing details of specifications and outline designs
• Using research, analytical, conceptual, and planning skills, particularly mathematical modelling and 2D/3D and SolidWorks computer-aided design
• Considering the implications of issues such as cost, safety and time constraints
• Monitoring and commissioning plant and systems
• Ensure materials selected in the design operation are readily available for all activities with cost of procurement a major consideration
Skills
• Engineering Degree/HNC Mechanical/Design Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years in machinery design or mechanical design experience in a fast paced high technology environment.
• Excellent interpersonal skills – able to express ideas and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Open minded- able to recognise good ideas.
• Innovative thinker – able to envision new and better ways to do things
• Good instincts and sound judgment for mechanical and structural design.
• Excellent analytical skills, ability to plan, organise, and implement multiple concurrent tasks.
• Good working knowledge of CAD/CAM/CAE computer systems, engineering materials and design, coating technologies and advanced manufacturing technologies. Fluent in 3D CAD systems such as Solidworks, with a good working knowledge of bills of materials, parts lists and component routing systems.
