Senior Laboratory Technician

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Laboratory Technician at our Sixth Form College. This is a part time, permanent post and is tenable from 7th September 2015.

As a Senior Laboratory Technician your main duties will include:

Line management of Assistant Laboratory Technicians

– Organisation and management of the work of Assistant Laboratory Technicians to ensure that the team provides a cost-effective and efficient service for supporting teaching and learning in all Science subjects;

– Advising on laboratory technician staffing requirements; assisting with recruitment and induction of staff

Health and Safety

– Ensuring the maintenance of a healthy and safe working environment, in line with current legislation and best practice;

To be considered for this Senior Laboratory Technician role you must have:

– Experience of undertaking a range of science related tasks.

– Previous experience of working in a science and/or technology environment

– Detailed knowledge of Health and Safety legislation as it relates to the workings of an educational setting.

– Detailed knowledge of COSHH and CLEAPPS regulations in relation to the safe handling and storage of chemicals.

– Detailed knowledge of safe working practices in relation to the handling and usage of hazardous equipment and tools.

– A sound knowledge of science curriculum at Levels 2 & 3 (GCSE, A Levels/BTEC)

To be considered for this Senior Laboratory Technician role it is desirable to have:

– NVQ Level 3 in Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities (LATA) or, NVQ Level 3 in Laboratory Technicians in Education or, Level 3 Certificate in Laboratory Technical Skills or equivalent in experience.

– Successful work experience in an educational environment

– Successful experience of leading a team
