Laboratory Site Chemist

Our client is a well-established, family-owned waste management and industrial cleaning specialist. A vacancy currently exists for a Laboratory Chemist to join their growing team in the West Midlands.

Main duties:

• Laboratory work including use of various machines (XRF, Karl Fischer etc).
• Analysis of waste with regard to pre-acceptance and acceptance (as per the imminent implementation of “Associated Measures” legislation).
• Collection of samples from incoming loads for testing.
• Issue analysis reports of waste to relevant personnel and within in amount of reasonable time.
• Maintain Laboratory in a tidy and organised manner.
• Maintain and organise the storage of samples, including receipt logs.
• Calibrate and maintain equipment in the laboratory.
• Collection of samples from customers sites.
• Technically assess waste(s).
• Produce accurate matrixes for incoming and outgoing wastes.
• Liaise/report to Operations regarding analysis and technical assessments.
• Liaise/ support technical department regarding sample analysis and assessments.
• Prepare quotations for customers.
• Provide support to the Site Chemists as required including working outside on the site.
• Attend customers sites as required and prepare lists.
• It will be expected that the successful candidate (once fully conversant in their own role) will gain experience in other facets of hazardous waste operations i.e. supporting the Site Chemists with Lab Pack / Smalls disposal (on and off-site), maintenance of bay logs (digital), site walkaround, receipt and logging of incoming waste. Comprehensive training will be provided for these additional responsibilities.

Applications are invited from candidates with a degree in Chemistry. Relevant experience would also be beneficial but fresh graduates are equally encouraged to apply as full training will be provided where necessary. A clean, full driving licence is essential.
