Senior Emergency Support Worker

Salary: £26,000 – £31,590 per year

Industrial Personnel are now recruiting for a Senior Emergency Support Worker, for a client based in Rotherham. The ideal candidate would be required to provide high quality and flexible support to children and young people who require emergency support as a result of being displaced and may communicate their distress with challenging behaviour.

The Job

* Support children and young people, presenting an empathetic and caring attitude to children and young people who may feel vulnerable, upset and displaced and may express this with challenging behaviour.

* Promote, safeguard, and protect the welfare of each child and young person.

* Follow all relevant policies and procedures.

* Provide short-term focused support, underpinned by a child-centred, clearly written plan to cover the duration of their stay, and support a positive transition.

* Work in partnership with relevant professionals to ensure a consistent and planned short-term support package for each child and young person based on their needs, wishes, feelings and strengths.

* Work in a way which embraces and supports the equality and diversity of children and young people requiring emergency support- with particular reference to culture, religion, sexuality and disability.

* To assist in the identification and management of risks and complete relevant records, reports and risk assessment/risk management plans to the required standard in accordance with the requirements of Children’s services.

* To have a clear understanding of the range of issues which compromise children’s safety and knowledge of the appropriate action required in order to both safeguard and escalate to relevant managers.

* To be willing and able to work outside of normal hours including early morning, evening, nights and weekends, the time and days to be decided by management, depending on the needs as part of a borough wide service.

* To travel independently to emergency accommodation or other venues and escort children and young people as the need arises.

* To ensure that the environment is clean, safe and homely, and to support the security of any emergency accommodation including fire prevention, and to assist in the preparation of food for Children and Young People, whilst in emergency support.

The Ideal Candidate

* DBS check required.

* A current driving licence is required.

* Must participate on a voluntary standby rota and work out of normal office hours.

* Must be passionate about providing a high standard of care.

* Must have experience of working with children and young people with complex needs and challenging behaviour.

* Understanding of the importance of confidentiality, child protection and whistle blowing.

* Practical knowledge and understanding of relevant childcare regulations and national policies e.g. The Children Acts, Children’s Homes Regulations.

* Experience of conflict resolution and mediation.

* Must be competent using a range of computer applications and ICT including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation software, internet and e-mail.

* Effective communication is essential.

* Must be able to use own initiative to organise daily workload.

* Ability to gather information, understand situations, identify risks, and produce short-term solutions or plans.

Qualifications

NQF Level 3 qualification e.g. AS and A levels, NVQs Level 3, Applied A Levels, BTEC First Certificates and Diplomas, City and Guilds Advanced Craft Part 3, or NQF Level 4 Certificates of Higher Education relating to working with Children and Young People.

OR

Experience of the equivalent level of knowledge gained through work experience.
