Salary: £54,000 – £66,000 per year
Our client a global automotive organisation are looking for an experienced Senior Design Engineer on Chassis structures:
The Role
* Design and develop Chassis structural components
* Lead the successful delivery of designs to meet program-specific targets including functional performance, quality, cost, mass, timing and sustainability
Main Responsibilities
* Design of complex cast aluminium chassis structures using Catia V5 (inc. detail design, drafting, GD&T, etc.)
* Evolve existing designs through the development and validation process to reach production-ready solutions
* Work in close partnership with suppliers to achieve optimum design for manufacture
* Support the creation & management of bill of materials, technical specifications, DFMEAs and DVPs
* Support prototype builds, validation (component, system & vehicle) and launch
* Work seamlessly across the teams (R&D, Manufacturing, Service, etc.) to ensure a collaborative approach is applied to the delivery of the project(s)
* Provide direction, guidance & coaching to more junior members of the team to support their development
The Person
* Must be Degree qualified (or equivalent) with a minimum of 5yrs experience in Chassis Structures design
* Highly skilled user of Catia V5 is essential
* Teamcenter PLM experience is advantageous
* An in-depth understanding of FEA and the latest materials & manufacturing technologies (extrusions, hollow castings, stamping, forging, advanced joining methods, etc.) is expected
* Should have experience of the full product lifecycle, from concept through to vehicle launch
* Have a clear understanding of chassis component & system attributes as well as manufacturing / service requirements
* Strong team player who can work effectively with other functional teams and business functions to achieve the best possible results for the product / programme
* Ability to prioritise workload & manage external inputs / requests without supervision
* Genuine interest in making efficient, sustainable products
* Willing to take responsibility and make decisions based on best judgement where data is not available
