Job Description
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service is looking for a Senior Application Developer to enhance our team based in Exeter. You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis (37 hours per week). In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £45,441 to £48,474 per annum. The role is based at Service Headquarters, Exeter, but there is the availability of flexible and / or home working, which can be discussed and agreed with the successful applicant.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the digital transformation of the Fire Service, helping change how it operates with technology.

About the Senior Application Developer role
You will be working as part of the Development Team on agile projects that make a real difference, delivering applications and features used by front-line and support staff.
Following the Service’s investment in Microsoft 365 we are now looking to fully utilise its functionality to improve business effectiveness and efficiency and exploit the opportunities this platform provides.
We are looking for a Senior Application Developer to help build capacity and capability within a Microsoft 365 oriented team
Key responsibilities as a Senior Application Developer:
- To challenge the way DSFRS approaches the design of new ICT Services, taking a continual improvement approach to developing Best Practice and process improvements within the ICT Service Development Team. and taking a creative and innovative approach to software design
- To ensure relevant documentation is kept up-to-date and available for all ICT Service Development undertaken
- To promote Customer Centric design principles into the ICT Service Development process, ensuring all new ICT Services are designed around the End User need and experience
- To embrace agile concepts within the Software Development process, while recognising the need for accurate performance management information and corporate governance
- To maintain an in-house style guide for all User eXperience (UX) development that aligns, where appropriate, with existing Government and internal brand standards
- To be responsible for the release of software by the team ensuring that all agreed processes and standards are adhered to
- To mentor and provide expertise to less-senior members of the development team in technology, development processes, practices and standards
- To act as Scrum Master, or equivalent, for a project or piece of work as required including running daily stand-up meetings, sprint planning, sprint reviews, maintaining task backlogs and removing blocking issues to the team can progress work

What we are looking for in our Senior Application Developer:
- Extensive experience of building applications and assisting in developing strategy that best utilise the Power Platform, including, but not limited to:

- Power Apps
- Power Automate
- Power BI
- Experience of working effectively at a senior practitioner level within a software development function.
- Act as agile lead for a project team and as interface with the wider organisation for the project.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to explain key concepts to individuals with varying levels of experience and understanding.
- The ability to liaise and engage effectively with staff across the organisation.
