Full job description

Kendall Poole Consulting Limited

Salary: £42,000 – £54,000 per year

As one of the global market leaders in the design, manufacture, installation and service of automated material handling systems and related services, our client has an excellent reputation in the market for reliable project and service delivery, innovation, customer focus and strong market awareness. Key markets include baggage handling for airports, automation for warehouse and distribution centres and parcel sorting solutions.

Due to significant year on year growth, a fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Sales Engineer to join the Birmingham based office. In essence, the role could be described as a mix between Project Engineer, Bid Engineer, Applications Engineer, Systems Engineer and Technical Sales Engineer. This is a technical project engineering role that also combines a commercial element and regular customer contact.

Reporting to the Sales Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will work together with the Business Development Manager and other team members as part of the Bid Team to enable a successful pre-contract phase of a project. You will identify customer needs, developing and evaluating the right logistics solutions, preparing technical sales proposals and presenting these to customers.

During the tender process you will work on complex technical and business issues and develop solutions using automation equipment from both the client and preferred suppliers. For the internal organisation, you are the contact person for technical and concept specifications in relation to the project and you will play an important role in the transfer from the sales team to the project execution team.

You will present the preferred technical solution to the customer, including products and systems, layout, how the proposed system will operate to meet their requirements and pricing. You will also accompany the customer on a visit to a reference site to show them a similar system in operation. Once any desired changes have been made, final documentation and proposal is produced and submitted to the customer prior to signing of contracts and receipt of order. You would stay on as part of the project team through the engineering phase, dealing with any variations to contract. This role will cover the UK and Ireland with occasional projects in Europe. Initial product and applications training will be based at the Group Training Academy.
Educated to Degree level in a relevant Engineering discipline, you will have previously worked in an Engineering or Manufacturing environment. You will require strong data analysis and problem solving skills, along with excellent communication and presentation skills. You will be a good team player and able to build an excellent rapport with customers. You will be familiar with Microsoft Access, Excel, Power Point and Word. The ability to interpret drawings is essential. CAD Design skills using AutoCAD and SolidWorks would be advantageous but not essential as you will have a designated CAD Designer in support.

To apply for this exciting opportunity in confidence, please send your CV and remuneration details to the retained consultants, Kendall Poole Consulting Ltd, FAO Francesca Williams. Successful candidates will be contacted within 3 weeks.
