James Andrews have a number of Local Council clients across the UK who are recruiting for Revenues / Local Taxation Officers on temporary and permanent contracts.

These positions will start on notice on a full-time basis, hybrid or remote, dependent on location, so we are keen to speak to anyone who is looking for work at present.

The ideal candidates will be experts in tax legislation as well as revenues and benefits software and have great communication skills.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Proactively and efficiently collecting income for the Council
  • Carrying out administrative and enforcement functions in respect of the billing, collection and recovery of Local Taxation in line with legislation in an accurate and timely manner
  • Reviewing outstanding debts & investigating using appropriate systems and available information to determine what appropriate action needs to be taken in order to recover outstanding debt
  • Monitoring high-risk debtors and taking prompt action in line with legislation and procedures to reduce and mitigate any financial loss to the Council
  • Instruct and undertake formal recovery action, as appropriate
  • Dealing with complex telephone calls from customers referred by the Customer Services Team
  • Undertaking all necessary actions to ensure that bills and other documentation is issued correctly and in a timely manner
  • Using an online computer database with the ability to work on multiple software systems used within the department, such as Northgate NEC, Information @ Work, Electoral role and external Enforcement Agents systems

Experience required:

  • Knowledgeable on Information @ Work, Electoral role and external Enforcement Agents systems
  • Experience working with customers within local government

Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

  • IRRV technician qualification or equivalent (desirable)
  • Knowledge of Local Authority statutory and legislative requirements
  • Northgate NEC, Information @ Work, Electoral role and external Enforcement Agents systems

  • 37 hours per week
  • Monday – Friday, 9am-5pm
