Our client is one of the UK’s largest manufacturers of building materials, supplying the construction sector with specialist plasterboard and associated products.

They now have an exciting opportunity available for a Quality Manager to join them and be accountable for the Quality Management System at their Bristol plant.

What the job involves

The role of Quality Manager within the Bristol Plant includes management of the quality control laboratory which has recently had a £250, 000 investment to give up to date facilities. Managing and developing the Quality Control Analyst team is also part of this role, so combined qualities in both technical and people skills are a must.

The plant is ISO9001 certified and part of the role is to ensure that all activities carried out on site meet with the expectations of this standard, including managing and conducting internal audits and hosting audits by external bodies.

As a gypsum product and plasterboard manufacturer, compliance with the European standard EN520 is also required. The role requires assurance that all products leaving the site comply with this standard and any deviations from it are investigated and documented. This may include detailed data analysis, trending and reporting, so experience in this is desirable.

Reporting to the Continuous Improvement and Quality (CI&Q) manager, this role is part of the CI&Q team. As such, experience in the implementation and use of CI techniques would be of benefit. This role is essential in supporting the embedding of a CI culture within the plant and there will be opportunities to network with other Quality and CI professionals across the business over time.

What we are looking for

As a candidate for this role, you must be educated to HND or degree level and have demonstrable relevant experience within quality assurance / management experience gained within a manufacturing environment. You will be skilled in manufacturing and laboratory practices and have a flexible approach to working hours when required.

You will be working across all departments within the manufacturing plant, from production to engineering and warehouse, regarding quality issues and new product development trials.

Candidates who hold lean/six sigma green belt are highly desirable as are those who have worked in a gypsum product manufacturing environment or material science.
