Purchasing Manager – Sheffield – £42- £50k plus excellent benefits
An excellent opportunity has been created by our growing Sheffield engineering consumables manufacturing and distribution client who seek the varied skills of an experienced Purchasing Manager with strong product sourcing/procurement and supply chain experience.
In the role of Purchasing Manager you will be responsible for leading a small team sourcing and purchasing the best quality equipment, goods and services at the most competitive prices to enable the company to operate successfully as well as inputting into effective UK and overseas logistics and supply chain operations.
Key Responsibilities of the Purchasing Manager:
-Coordinate with colleagues in different company locations to negotiate cost and supplier selection
-Oversee effective supply chain management
-Personally control suppliers communication and price, delivery, stock negotiation
-Effective tracking of inventory and appropriately adjusting purchasing habits in accord with trends
-Forecast levels of demand for services and products and make relevant orders accordingly
-Conduct research to source the best products and suppliers in terms of value, delivery schedules and quality
-Run tenders, evaluate bids and make recommendations, based on commercial and technical factors
-Negotiate and agree contracts, monitoring the quality of service provided
-Build and maintain good relationships with new and existing suppliers
-Manage and motivate a team of procurement staff
-Liaise between suppliers, manufacturers, internal teams such as sales, engineering, materials control and manufacturing.
-Develop strategies to make sure that cost savings and supplier performance targets are met – or exceeded
-Develop and implement a procurement strategy
-Analyse data and produce reports and statistics on spending and saving
-Train/ coach members of staff.
Experience and Skills of the Purchasing Manager:
-Commercial and financial awareness as managing budgets and keeping costs down is a key part of the role
-Development and management of suppliers
-Competitive Purchasing / Tendering
-Contract / Supplier management
-MRP/ERP competency
-Commercial awareness
-Ideally some formal CIPS or equivalent qualification (Full or part)
-Strong analytical ability
-Proven ability to lead and motivate a team
-The ability to make important decisions and cope with the pressure of demanding targets and tight deadlines
-Experience of a similar level of role within a manufacturing or engineering industry.
-Strong negotiation skills
