Maloy & Flynn Recruitment are currently looking for an experienced Production/Workshop Manager to join a well established fabrication company in Nottingham.
As Production Manager you will:
* Be able to motivate and develop all key members of your team
*Be able to demonstrate strong people management skills
*Recognise potential in employees
*Attend production meetings, non conformance meeting and senior management meetings
*Manage between 80-100 staff
Job Purpose
To effectively and efficiently manage production in-line with the business plan, targets, objectives and related budgets.
To manage the department to ensure compliance with standards (national and international) and with appropriate legislation.
Position in the organisation
• The job holder reports to the Managing Director
• The following report directly to the job holder
o Production Supervisor
Key measures of success
• To ensure that all work meets set deadlines, within budget, to quality standards and meets customer expectations. (35% Margins) (New methods of manufacturing, improve supervisor and foremen/charge hand role implementation, monitor and manage budgets.)
o Measure is to reduce the percentage of errors attributed to Production (over 35%) by 5%
• To develop systems to ensure the smooth, safe running of the workshop to ensure reduction in breeches of health and safety ( compliance with H & S law)
o Measure is to ensure 24 SWP’s are implemented each month
o Measure is to reduce the number of identified health and safety breeches month on month
• To monitor, measure and control the efficient and effective use of resources. ( records, minutes, cost savings)
o Measure is to reduce the number of errors in audits carried out by the foreman month on month
o Monthly performance review of supervisor, foremen, charge-hands, purchasing.
o To spot check and identify errors in purchasing against quoting and reduce the cost of over-spending each quarter
• To make effective decisions which assist in the implementation of deadlines, target and budget.
• To facilitate continuous training and professional development of employees in the department.
Target, time, budget
• Target – To ensure all customers receive a quality service and product and that work is carried out in a safe manner
• Time – To meet set deadlines for production
• Budget –To ensure all workshop and job budgets are met
Areas of responsibility
• To motivate and develop the Production supervisor and his team to ensure they are capable of delivering a high quality service and product.
• To be proactive in monitoring and managing the production supervisor and his teams to work both efficiently and effectively to meet business objectives.
• To monitor production for efficiency and effectiveness and to intervene as necessary to ensure targets, deadlines and budget are met.
• To convene regular meetings with the production supervisor to monitor, discuss and problem solve issues related to production.
• Liaising with the production supervisor to discuss requirements which ensure the smooth and safe running of the workshop.
• Liaising with the drawing office to discuss and agree related issues
• Senior Fire Marshall co-ordinator.
• To develop and maintain current competency through training and to train others as required.
• To ensure all works employees are suitably trained especially in areas of health and safety.
• Managing the workforce, ensuring that any performance issues are dealt with in conjunction with the HR department
• To facilitate training and development for the department, ensuring that all mandatory and required training is kept up to date
• Working alongside other senior managers and departments within the business to ensure that the business objectives are met.
• To carry out any other tasks that are required as part of the role and as requested.
Area of shared responsibility
• To assist SMT with any tasks required by the business plan
• Attend WIP, margin and NNC meetings to help improve performance and efficiency of the company
• To create and agree an annual departmental budget with the FD, in line with the business plan.
• To implement improvements in stock control and purchasing resources for the works in conjunction with Accounts and Administration Manager
